Hope that anyone in the path of Storm Stella has shoveled out, kept their power going so there was heat, and nobody had any serious problems during the storm.
Check in the sidebar for another blog candy picture...as of now, TWO giveaways. Since the first week expires on the 19th, and I've not done a post until today, there will be a 2nd blog candy. Who knows, maybe another one??? Perhaps I can do one weekly and find loving homes for some good NBUS. And YAY I finally got to 350 followers, so another cause for celebration!!
There is still time to join in with the March CAS Watercolor Challenge. I've been trying to carve a bit of time to make something, and last night, on a little sort break, decided to try the brusho-cling wrap technique done by my sweet friend Loll on this card. Tried the first stage of this last night, so the background could dry overnite. I'm happy to say my 2nd effort turned out better than when I tried the cling some time ago. Think the fact that I used more intense colors this time made the difference.
- Lemon Brusho crystals sprinkled onto dry mixed media (90# canson), sprayed with a silvery/pearl spray - let that bloom. Added Emerald Green brusho, spritzed again with the pearl spray. That didn't seem to spread the colors as much as water does, so then sprinkled Color Burst Turquoise powder, spritzed this with several sprays of water, keeping about 12" above the piece. IMHO, the brusho crystals are easier to control than the C/Burst powders.
When this color started to spread nicely, used a cling wrap larger than the background size and just bunched & scrunched it over the wet color. Left overnight. IRL the pearly spray added a nice silver look to the scrunched patterns, but the photo doesn't show this.
Die cut with a Gina Marie Double Pierced Oval (and the negative has a nice row of double piercing too.) This die came from Gina Marie site - but couldn't find to link there. Probably just overlooking.
G.Marie Spring Flower layering set cut from white snippets...the flower has 3 layers, the leaf has 2.
Adhered together, edged with some Distress Inks. We will soon have dogwood blossoms in our area, and this shape made me think of the dogwoods.
- stamped the sentiment from a clear set, cut the snippet into a fishtail shape, scored 2 lines to add a little emphasis, and called it done.
Sharing at CAS March Watercolor AND at the Snippets Playground week 271-272, where Parsnip may say "You are a stranger". (but I hope not).
Thanks for joining me this afternoon. I'll be back to the Craft Salt Mines once I find some lunch.
Hugs

You have done an amazing work with brushos and scrunching, great technique, and certainly the pearly spray has been a brilliant idea: the diecut oval panel has a fab shiny look!Love the bright colours!
That flower is a delight, it's so sweet and really seems a dogwood. Love the little fishtail banner with the sentiment, too!
Thanks for both your fab giveways!!

This background is stunning and set off your flower so perfectly/
ReplyDeleteI love the bite of time project. Such a good phrase for many of us to consider as it is too easy to shy away from huge projects due to the overwhelming amount of time they need. This bites of time way lets you see the big picture coming to fruition as you chunk it out...love it!
This double stitched oval looks so pretty and in that gorgeous green, and the sweet white flower and leaves stands out beautifully. The cling film technique has worked really well here. Glad you are sticking with your reorganisation, and it will be great when you have it all sorted I'm sure. x
ReplyDeleteHi Mary, so sweet of you to pop on over to my blog and leave your very welcome comment. Always nice to see a friendly face. I just love your card and wish I could understand all the steps that it took for you to create it. I'm not much into mixed media yet, but I'd love to dabble in it one day. And don't worry, my stamp space is just as messy as yours is. I'm also trying to organize my stuff, but I keep buying more! Right now I'm in the beginning stages of unmounting most all my wooden stamp sets and putting the in plastic DVD cases. It's going well, but slow. Good luck with getting everything put away.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card Mary that green colour is stunning! Perfect backdrop for that pretty diecut flower, Cathy x
ReplyDeleteYou make me want to use my Color Burst powders, Mary--gorgeous background for that wonderful floral die!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful card Mary! I have been wanting to learn how paint with watercolors. Hoping to start that soon. :)

Sounds a wonderful technique.
Love your fab design, and the sweet flower in the centre.
Love and big hugs from my house to yours.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.
Forgot to say your work in progress with your craft room sounds daunting, but sounds like you have it all worked out so as not to overdo things.
ReplyDeleteMy DIL says she is going to have a week off sometime, and tackle mine.
Oh that will be so helpful as all the bending, and standing does my back in big time.
You take care now and listen when your body tells you no.
Love Jenny L.
Hi Mary,
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely Brusho background and nice card layout.

Such a beautiful and bold background oval, Mary. I can see the design left from the scrunched cling wrap and know exactly what you say about the silvery pearl sticking to those areas. Great job!! And your flower looks so pretty --- great contrast. It does look like a dogwood to me, and we will have those trees blooming all over here soon. Dogwood is our province's flower. We have both white and pink dogwoods in B.C. Wish I had one in my yard as I love them. Good that you continue to make progress on your organizing. A big task, but so rewarding. Thanks for sharing your beautiful card with us at CAS Watercolour! xx
ReplyDeleteThis looks fab! I'm a newbie with my brushos, I'm gonna give this technique a go :)

ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeou brusho background, Mary ... there's a wonderful depth to it, like looking into deep water ... the simple white bloom is fabulous against it! Hugs, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteoooooo! love what you did to achieve the deep green brushos coloring, Mary, and using it as a die cut focal point instead of an all-over background. Beautifully done, and just so pretty! It's a great way to try to do a CAS card - I think I might be able to do that! They are the hardest for me. Wishing you a great Tuesday! hugs, de
