Hello from Sunny Florida

Hiya, just popping by this afternoon to say a big hello and share a few piccies that have been taken. I've tried to work on coloring some images, but sad to say, have only completed 3. Just can't get me in the mood. After Mr. loaded my big craft bag filled with Copics, I had to be seen doing 'something' however...so several afternoons I've managed to stamp up an image and work on it. Hard to color well if you're just not in the mood though. At least for me!

Did dash into a local Target with the DD and while she was looking for her 'wants', I checked the school supply aisle. Found the Staedtler marker set that I had discovered while here at Christmas. The set is $24.99 (still cheaper than buying the Copic multi-liner pens one by one, plus copic doesn't have all these colors either). The tips are quite fine, so it's nice to do stems or lines with one of these. I've not seen these markers at home, and actually this particular Target is the only one where I've found them in Florida. Since I really like them, and don't know how long the ink will last, I purchased 2 sets. Have learned the hard way, if I like something - when I find it, buy at least 2 of it. And hope the ink doesn't dry out before using!!

Here's what we saw out on the pool deck one morning:

We think this is a Blue Heron (don't know our cranes). On the other Fla coast where we lived for so many years, we had sand cranes that walked down the streets of our community. They looked like a group of gabbling ladies who were out for a walk through the neighborhood. They were very noisy, also very messy. I used to throw bread crumbs out on the driveway for them, until someone told me this was a big No-No. Stopped that real fast!

Dogs started to bark at our visitor & he took flight. I wasn't really trying to capture him in flight, but I was happy to see the result of the snap. He moved so rapidly to look like such a clumsy creature on land.

Had to share a picture of some of the dogs.

Yesterday we went for a drive to Sarasota (had to cross that Skyway Bridge that I hate!). Visited some friends who winter here from their home in Maine and then had a lovely lunch at an Amish restaurant. Then on the way home, DH & friend agreed to stop at Sparkle n Sprinkle Stamps in Ruskin. Wasn't too far out of our way, and I stocked up on some embossing powders and pretty glitters.

Today we visited a quaint little Florida beach town called Gulfport. Walked around the square, lots of tiny boutiques and restaurants. The main street is cobbled, very atmospheric, but bumpy to ride across. We stopped at a small restaurant and enjoyed a Cuban sandwich & black bean soup (DD & I, the guys had something else). Came home, started some laundry. Had thought to head home Friday, but since DD has the day off for Good Friday, we'll plan to leave Saturday, since she will be working.
Hope to persuade Mr. to take me to St. Petersburg & Whim So Doodle Stamps tomorrow, but he wants to clean the truck, so that trip may not happen.

For some reason I was not thinking Easter is this coming weekend, but the following. Guess who won't be having any Easter cards ready to mail out??? Oh well, it's relaxing to be here with nothing much to do, except watch Netflix & Acorn & read Doc Martin fan fiction while everyone else is 'doing their thing'. Hope you are all set for the Easter weekend, and hopefully can spend it with those that you love. Just wanted to check in & say "Hey". Big Hugs & God Bless.

Almost forgot this one...such a gorgeous golden sunset.

Hi Mary, it's lovely to hear about your goings on!! Those Staedler pens sound like a good buy, we have them here in the UK and they are really good (although not cheap) as outline pens and for definition too. Glad you are keeping up with Doc while you are away. He's been keeping a low profile of late. Enjoy the rest of your stay and have a safe trip home xx

Hi Mary - if you are in Florida then it's entirely possible your pix that of the Sandhill Crane - did they have a red crest to the head?

Lovely pix and well done on tracking down stash in Target

Enjoy your break

Hi Mary, so glad you are having a nice relaxing time in Florida with a little retail therapy too. I love the heron and that sunset is beautiful. I was so excited to see a lot of pelicans when we were last visiting our DS in Australia and you could get quite close to them before they took flight. x

That made me smile, I thought Easter was next weekend too - lol! Love your photos, I think it is a Blue Heron, we have one living on the pond next to our property - they make a heck of a racket first thing in the morning - not a great sound! Great photos Mary. Hope you have a good trip tomorrow. Hugs, Anne xx

I used to love visiting Florida in the spring when my in-laws were snow birds. My son now lives in Pensacola and we'll be visiting him in May to help him move. I'll have to check out if there are any stamp shops in Pensacola. Sounds like a lovely trip. Travel safely!

What a beautiful view, Mary! I love your morning visitor, and never lose my sense of awe as they fly over head in "families" - you can hear them from miles away as they make their gawking-clicking noise with their tongues on their beaks. I have some photos of them visiting our home, too. They are incredible, aren't they? And so unafraid of humans. Thank you for sharing the photos! xo
