Welcome. The card in this post has been received, so time to share it here. This one is based on a video by Gina K on the technique of Stamping over Watercolor.
- Used Zig brush markers over watercolor paper, spritzed - just as in the video. Then versamark applied to the clear stampings*, embossed with Ranger's Queens Gold. (*meant to say, applied versamark to a clear stamp and then stamped it!)
- Distress Inks in Iced Spruce and another blue shade were sponged over the results. Had tried using the darker inks as Gina does, but found I liked the results of this sponging best. I've tried Memento Paris Dusk (navy) over clear and also tried the black. Not happy with the looks that resulted for me, but I really liked the look Gina achieved.
- die cut this piece with a rectangle shape, layered a Memory Box Postage die cut under it (snippet). The gold edging done by sponging versamark at the edges and heat embossing with Queen's Gold. Black mat layer. The edges are not exactly even, but hey, this is not Hallmark!
- White card base sponged with more Distress Inks to try to compliment the colors in the focal piece as none of the tons of cardstock that live here, seemed to look right with the other elements.
- Impression Obsession sentiment die from white snippets, heat embossed with Queen's Gold. This die is best cut with the metal Sizzix Precision plate.
This was a special thank you to a very generous & sweet person, so I hope she liked it. I always hesitate to send my work to someone who is such an awesome designer herself. Am I the only card maker who feels this way?
Ya'll have a good day, and come back when ya can! Hugs.
Wow Mary, amazing card! Love very much your watercolouring tones and the golden embossed sentiment! Great technique, thanks for the link

A gorgeous technique and you did it so well! This is a stunner for sure! <3
ReplyDeleteGreetings Mary, I have been trying my hand at water coloring also, it is so fun. Love the background colors and fabulous design.
ReplyDeleteHugs Diane
The effect of the gold embossing on the water-coloured background is stunning. I love the colours you have chosen for it, a gorgeous thank you card.

This is beautiful!!!! And I LOVE every single card that's sent to me because it comes from the heart, AND all art is wonderful!!!Especially from a friend :-) Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Mary, wonderful colours and a terrific background. I love watercolours, the effect is always so much softer, Kate x
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful card Mary and a great technique. I have been trying to be brave and "let loose" with embossing powders of late and might try this one. I have pots of Twinkling H20's that haven't had the lids off for years and I think they might work with this technique. You're not the only one to feel that way. I always hesitate when sending a card to an accomplished crafter too, but we "artistes" always seem to be highly critical of our own work!! xx
ReplyDeleteOh so beautiful Mary. Xj.
ReplyDeleteYour card looks beautiful Mary. Your gold embossing looks lovely and rich. I'm sure your friend will love it.
ReplyDeleteI looked into getting the precision plate but I have the Sizzix Plus and they say that plate should not be used with my machine. Anyway, I do appreciate your information. Barbxx
This is beautiful Mary and the colours with the gold embossing look really pretty. I love the postage stamp die cut behind which complements the gold and then the black behind that makes all the layers pop including that lovely pink base card. i'm sure the recipient adored it! I did watch the video and know what you mean about seeing a technique and trying to replicate it, but your version works well anyway, and I'm sure Gina K is a clever lady and gives freely of her ideas, but I wonder how many times she did it to get it to her satisfaction before videoing it...lol. x
ReplyDeleteHi Mary, What a lovely card. I'd be thrilled to get it.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about sending cards to other crafters, but I think as crafters we appreciate a homemade card.
Hope you have a lovely day. Sue
This is absolutely gorgeous, Mary!! The gold is amazing!! The colors are so beautiful!! Wow, what a stunning card this is!! Love it my friend!! Have a great day!! Big hugs :)

Oh Momma Mary, this is such a beautiful card! I love the colors you used and I love the gold embossing. I watched this tutorial too but have yet to try it. I love how Gina K's card came out as well, but was nervous when she started putting that black on the card. lol But it was so beautiful after she did that. Yours is equally beautiful!! Hugs, Brenda
