This month I tried very hard to play as the theme is Geometrics. I have circles, ovals, squares, rectangles, you name it. So it ought to have been super easy, right? Here goes, and see what you think.
Here's the 2 cards done using a skinny Double Stitched Rectangle, Set B, Sue Wilson. (hope this link to Walmart works. Mine came from Oozak when there was a 50% off, and it's no longer showing at the site).
Also used the S/Binders Wonky Rectangle as a mat.
-SnS sunflower image was inked with DI markers onto 140# c/s. Then used a water brush to pull the color out. The skinny stitched rectangle cut the focal image. Then used larger sized rectangles from that set to cut the frame. Adhered a previously made Brusho background onto cream cardstock. Adhered the frame rectangle piece, then inlaid the watercolored piece. Added a stamped sentiment, 3 wooden look sequins, and decided to do a few score lines.
- Northwoods Halloween image was colored with copics. Used the same skinny stitched rectangle to die cut the scene into thirds. Wasn't sure how this would look with the separation in the scene, but I think it turned out ok. A background of DOX was created using Dusty Concord, Mermaid blue and Carved Pumpkin. Sprayed this lightly with some Tattered Angels silver-y spray (which of course doesn't show. It made spatters I was proud of though!) Tried to use an unmounted plain rubber spiderweb stamp to black emboss - I've learned that unmounted stamps do NOT stamp well for me, so will be hunting up that mounting stuff I have somewhere. Decided to dry emboss a SU spiderweb, which worked ok, although not much of that shows either. Purple glitter paper was die cut with the Wonky rectangle (which needed a little artistic license. The large die in the set didn't quit fit for the trio of rectangles, so drew around the outer edge to lengthen it enough that the images would fit better. Then fussy cut ). Last bit was to use another snippet of the green brusho piece to heat emboss the Halloween sentiment, add some purple rhinestones. One Halloween card down!
I'm having blogger issues with comments again. I have deleted the email address, saved, waited a bit, then re-added the address, saved. But still not getting the comments. This started yesterday. So bear with me.
Off to link up with the August Twofer Challenge. Thanks for joining me this evening. Hugs.
Your summery birthday card and colorful Halloween card are incredible, Mary! I'm so glad you were able to get that second card done in time! I love how sensational that Brusho panel is behind the sweet flower bouquet and the score lines and little wooden bling are great elements! Your Halloween card is filled with layers and details to delight the eyes! I see the spider web e/f peeking out!! Thank you so much for playing in Twofer Card Challenge #8! Hugs, Darnell

Wow, two fabulous take of the challenge theme!!! The first one have a lovely look that remember me a cushion, great use of dies and your brushos background is stunning! Fab colouring on the sunflowers too!
ReplyDeleteThe second one is just stunning with that Halloween image, wonderfully coloured and the glitter on the back makes it pop out! The embossed background it's amazing! Well done on both!
These are lovely Mary....I just adore that Halloween image and your vibrant colouring....
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend xxxxx
Hello Mary, I love your two cards, so beautifully created.
ReplyDeleteSunflowers are one of my favourite flowers and your colouring is fab.
Love the cheeky pumpkins too, we don't celebrate Halloween like you do, so I never make those sorts of cards, but I love to see other folk making them, the colours are brilliant. Have a grand weekend, Kate x
Great twofer cards Mary, Sadly I missed this challenge yet again! Not enough time at the moment, love your colourful duo, Cathy x

Two fun cards - especially that Halloween one. Love the little pumpkins and the gorgeous fall colors that you used! The sunflowers are so pretty - I guess summer is almost over!
ReplyDeleteCute cards! Love that Halloween card!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!

What a brilliant idea to use those rectangles this way for your cards! I just love how you framed the flowers on the first card - it looks like shutters surrounding a great window view with those pretty flowers! The Halloween card is wonderful with both a happy and a spooky jack-0-lantern and I love how you split the image into 3 panels. Love all that glitter too :) Great Twofer, and it was worth all the work you put into it!
ReplyDeleteWow, Mary, you are going to town with the watercoloring! I'm proud of you and your sunflowers are gorgeous and I love the way you've framed them! Love your Halloween scene too! So beautifully colored and I love the scene cut in three! I never had any luck with the unmounted stamps either. I'm not fond of adding the cling foam because it gets sticky all over my scissors, but that's outweighed by the fact that I don't like my stamps falling willy nilly on my paper!
ReplyDeleteTwo wonderful cards Mary. Love those bold sunflowers and framing. The Halloween card is super sensational too. FANTASTIC!!!!!

Two gorgeous cards Mary and I love the beautifully coloured sunflowers and the pretty Brusho background behind them, and then in contrast your brilliantly coloured Halloween card and the image works so well cut into thirds and looks great with the purple glitter and inked and embossed layers which complement it perfectly. Just to let you know, the Michael's link doesn't show the SW die just a comments section. x
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous! I love the colors and geometric designs incorporated into these beautiful cards, Mary! Mary, did you wait for the servers to cycle before re-entering your email address? Did you put it in both places? I'm sorry you're having troubles. hugs, de
ReplyDeleteI think you’ve used the stitched rectangle in two very different ways. I like the effect of the image being cut into three parts and put back together. Nice and sparkly and a tad spooky:) beautiful sunflower card, classy.
ReplyDeleteOh Mary, you have outdone yourself on these! I love the sunflowers and that was perfect for the rectangle. The wonky side panels are geometric too. The Halloween scene is so colorful and looks great divided. I love how you extended the purple glitter wonky panel along the bottom.
ReplyDeleteWell done Momma Mary! Yes, your link does work just fine. I love how you have used these dies! So fun and such different cards-you knocked this challenge out the water! The flower card is just beautiful. Love the cutout shape and the inky goodness behind it. You have made this such a fun card design and I love it! The Halloween card is perfect and fun too. I love the scene, it is so cute! And I love the way you cut it into three panels but yet it really doesn't look like it, you have to look carefully at it to see it. Just beautiful! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever way to create cards for the two-fer. Love that you used that die! I'm always blown away by the amount of coloring you are willing to do. Both are done beautifully and as always, you accessorize your artwork perfectly!
ReplyDeleteVery cool! Glad you were able to get these two sweet cards in the gallery before it closed. The sunflower birthday card is so sweet, and I do love the background you've created for it. Sweet triptych for your Halloween card! I've always liked dividing up images, and yours is done perfectly. Great cards. Thanks for joining us at the Twofer Challenge. Bev
ReplyDeleteWow, they are both so gorgeous!! I love the designs of each card!! The sunflowers are beautiful and I love the Halloween scene cut into three panels!! Stunning job on both!! Have a great weekend!! Big hugs :)

I absolutely love your Twofers. The sunflower one is so gorgeous and looks fantastic in the middle of the wonky background design. And, of course, the Halloween one is so well designed with the panels fitting together to create your scene. I love the background for that one too.
ReplyDeleteGreat cards!
ReplyDeleteLove the Halloween one!
I think they are both excellent cards Mary. Your watercoloring is great and you have used some really gorgeous images.

Both cards are beautiful, I love the gorgeous flowers on the first one but the Halloween card is the one that really catches my eye! The spider web backing and the gorgeous purpley blue background really makes the other elements stand out - love it!! Hugs, Anne xx

Two fantastic cards using your double-stitched rectangle die Mary! Love your beautiful sunflower birthday card. The sunflowers are so bright and cheerful. The brushos background works perfectly with your image.
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun Halloween card Mary. Lots of colour and fun layering going on. I can just the spider web dry embossed background, which is fun and adds texture. The image cut into the three rectangles turned out perfectly. And it looks awesome with the glittery background. I bet you had lots of fun making these Mary!! Thanks for playing along with us at Twofer Card Challenge! xx
What a great take on the challenge with these two eyecatching cards.
