Ducks for May Rudolph Day

Hi, and it's time for Rudolph Day for May 2018. In case you don't know about this challenge, it's a Christmas Challenge hosted by Scrappymoi (Maureen). It starts the 25th of each month and runs until month ending. The only rule is that the card must have a Christmas theme ...of anything you wish. There's always some good prizes, and lots of participation & inspiration from the Design Team. So I urge you to check it out, if you're not familiar with it.

Now my card was started for a previous Christmas Club Challenge but I didn't get this one finished in time. Brilliant idea: save it for Rudy Day. It's an old Penny Black image, which I think was an eBay purchase. Just cause I think these silly ducks are adorable. But...the image is long, so it was a challenge for me to think of how to use the finished image as I normally make card sized 5.5x4.25.

Colored, of course - with copics and some WoS. Die cut & dry embossed with a S/B long rectangle and did some antique distressing along the edges while still in the die so there is a white outer frame on the image.

Cut mats - each one successively larger but trying to keep it from growing way too large. The mat closest to the image was edged with double stick tape, then applied a Rose Copper Glitz Ritz. Burnished and thought that looked pretty ok with the colors in the image. Next mat did the same, using a gold Ritz, etc. The outer mat was cut from white (as were the other 2 mats), but then used the same copic reds in the Noel letters to color the edges. Inked with WOW embossing ink, and applied 3 coats of Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE). Heat the first application, and immediately re-ink and add another coat of UTEE, heat emboss. I did 3 layers to get the shine I want, and the gleam that is visible in the top right corner - is from the UTEE, and the light reflection. Actually I think it looks quite nice with the enameled mat combined with the glittered mats. The card base is white, and it WILL fit into a size 10 envelope (a business size). It's not quite as long, so I may choose to make an envie that it fits better.

Please do look in at Rudolph Day, it's a great way to build your Christmas card stash, and who knows, perhaps you'll win the prize Mo has on offer for this month.

Take care, God Bless and come again when you have time. I've been MIA on the posting & blog visits of late. Just been busy. (Oh, yes, for all those who were kind enough to ask about all the medical tests...they are finished - we hope! - and all went well. Thank goodness).

NOTE:  Today it seems I'm having the same problem with comments coming into my email. I just happened to think to check the Awaiting Modification section, after I'd done the Christmas Card Club post, as no comments were being notified as of late evening. No biggie, I was late with my post; just thought nobody had seen it to comment. Then when I was getting ready to publish this draft I'd done earlier, I thought to double check the awaiting section, and there were about 13 to be published. Not sure why this is happening again. I've changed nothing. I'll call my provider tomorrow. I did already check to be sure I've not blocked anything. I think it's Blogger, as another blog pal had asked me how I fixed it last time. Don't think I fixed anything, honestly!!! I just don't want to miss returning visits to someone who was kind enough to spend time looking at my post :-).

  1. Love this card, Mary. What a fabulous stamp! The image is beautifully coloured and really made me smile.

If you check out Darnell's blog, it seems there is a major problem with email notifications. She has posted some info that might solve your problem. xx

  2. I just love that stamp and your card too! It's fun all the way with those cute ducks! I too stopped getting email notifications - it has to do with this new privacy stuff that went into effect May 25th. I need to re-read Darnell's blog and figure out how to fix this as well, because I am missing the emails as well. Blogger is always complicating things with changes it seems :)

  5. Yesterday I was feeling all sad and unloved because nobody had commented on my blog for a couple of days - and it turned out I was just not getting the emails. Hope Blogger sorts it out soon - and then we'll probably get a whole shedload of emails from all the comments we've already seen!
Your card is gorgeous - I've never really thought of ducks as Christmassy (except perhaps roasted and served with all the trimmings - oh please don't let those cute little duckies read that!) but these cuties are gorgeous. And in any case I'm currently working on a design featuring a Christmas turtle so who am I to speak!

  11. This is just a cute card! I love the ducks and what a fun image this is. The glitter mats are so pretty. I should do those Christmas challenges but my space is limited to keep Christmas supplies out. Maybe I could reorganize and make them more available.

  12. Love, love, love these fun geese with their Christmas message! As usual your coloring amazed me! I would have red all over the place. Love the way you've matted it too! Very creative and makes a big impact! I don't have blog comments emailed to me. I just check them on my Blogspot page so I haven't noticed any trouble but have seen lots of Bloggers that are having trouble. I guess all this privacy stuff is the cause of it all.

  18. Your card is a really neat design with the ducks. I saw Darnell's post too, but that is also a pain each time to make a comment under your own artwork in order to see the notifications. I think many are not happy campers about this new development. I know I am not.

  19. OH! Mary this is just wonderful, I love the "geese" I presume as geese are around at Christmas, BUT, there again so are ducks lol. Anyhow, it's a wonderful card with those ickle birds peeping in between the letters. LOVE it.

You are probably aware everyone is having problems with this new Data Protection thingy. Hope they sort it soon, at least we are having comments I hope!

Lots of us are having problems with email notifications - I think it is because of the new privacy laws.

  24. A fabulous card Mary, love this image, funny but PB images never date, lovely layout too.
It's mayhem out there, Blogger has changed something and not notified us, I have not had comments by e-mail since the new GDFR laws came into being. The forum on Blogger has been inundated with complaints and no explanations has been forth=-coming from Blogger.
If you go to Darnel's blog she has a way to get past it by as soon as you have done your post and published it you need to leave a message on that post and then tick the e-mail follow up comment to...... box.

No idea what you will have to do for scheduled posts.
I have done this with my RD post and comments have come through

  26. Those ducks are darling peeking out of each of the letters! I love the shape of your card, that was a great way to finish it off rather than trying to make it fit the normal card base. I scrolled down and saw your other fantastic Christmas cards too - great designs!

  30. Hi Mary, Sorry for the late visit. I missed playing in Rudolph this month. I'm just getting my feet back under me from Vancouver (where I gave out your hugs as instructed!!) and tomorrow I'm off again to Seattle, but I had some time to pay you a visit. I'm glad you are finished with medical stuff and all is well and hope it stays that way!

There are few images worth the nuisance of making a long card/ envelope, etc., but this duckie image is one of them! I totally love it and love how you have matted it! I hope the comment fix worked for you, but please God that Blogger corrects it soon back the way it was!! Take care! Hugs, Darnell
