Hi - today is Christmas Card Club Sunday, and I'm a bit late with this post. Our group of cardmakers share a Christmas Card Challenge every other Sunday, and this week Lorraine of Rainey's Craft Room wanted to see Snowmen. So after apologies for being late, here is my Snowman.
- sky background airbrushed using a plastic cloud template, & various shades of Blue Violet, Blue, Bluegreen, in the 0000 & 000 shades. Finally sponged some DI blues in the corners to create a bit more depth.
- Sue Wilson tree dies cute from a snippet of dark green, added brushable glue once these were in place. Over the wet glue, sprinkled polar white flower soft (much of which has fallen off! I have the WORST luck with that stuff! I did press gently into place and let it dry too). Added some star dust stickles because the flower soft was such a disappointment as snow.
- Inkadinkadoo Snowman - stamped with Memento London Fog, colored with copics. Paper pieced his scarf, applied glossy accents on his vest, and some star dust stickles rubbed around his snowy tummy and hat.
- torn strips of American Crafts glitter paper for the snowy ground, then added star dust for ice.
- Impression Obsession deer cut from a velvet texture brown dp. His hooves have some stickles around his hooves.
Left off a sentiment --will decide as needed whether this will be a 'for winter' or 'for Christmas' card.
Hope that other folks have better luck with Flower Soft than I do. The flower soft glue is in a container that I fight with to try to squeeze the glue out. (store it upside down in a jar as directed in a class I took on Flower Soft. Have tried other glues - thick ones, thin ones. This time was a SnS Brushable glue, sprinkled the F/Soft the wet glue, pressed & let it dry. The stuff still fell off. I get very discouraged when trying to use this product. Be interested in hearing about your experiences with it or suggestions to make it less frustrating. It's so pretty if it works properly).
Please do see what my team mates have shared on our Snowman theme (blog links on the right side bar). Realized I've still got a couple wonderful birthday cards to post on the Cards by Friends Page too.
Have a great day, and hope it's cool where you are this afternoon. Thanks for joining me, and big hugs.
Hi Mary what a super snowman and your paper peiceing is great....love those SW trees...I gave up on flower soft glue and bought doocrafts dries white and that works well for me.....enjoy the rest of Sunday...O have been out to a craft show...spent too much and home to watch the final at Wimbledon and now in bed nursing a horrible summer cold...ah well hugs xxxxxx
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to be part of a biweekly craft group to prepare those Christmas cards and avoid any last minute stress.
ReplyDeleteLove the dimension of this scene, so well put together, and it looks like it's postage friendly too.
What a beautiful winter scene, Mary! Lovely colors. I feel like I'm in a blizzard! I have used Alleene's Quick Dry Tacky glue with good success. Thanks for sharing! XXOO
ReplyDeleteaw Mary - thats a wonderful snowman - love him to bits - your card is wonderful - such a great scene xx
ReplyDeleteI love those wonderful trees and your snowman is delightful in his paper pieced scarf and sparkly body. I have to admit to having the same issues with the Flowersoft glue and have now found another one that holds the Flowersoft in place properly either... Hugs, Anne xx
ReplyDeleteLove the snowman and the gorgeous background, my favourite, paper piecing too.
ReplyDeleteFabulous card.
Kath x
What a gorgeous scene Mary, love the majestic snowman and his brightly coloured clothing.
ReplyDeleteI always successfully used Flowersoft glue but as you say the container is a fight to use. Carol x
What a fantastic wintry scene you have created here Mary. Such a lovely snowman. I use creative expressions dries clear glue for my flowers and have never had a problem since xx
ReplyDeleteHe's a fabulous snowman Mary, thank you for joining in with my challenge this time. I love the die cut trees you have used as a back drop for him and beautiful airbrushed sky too.
ReplyDeleteWith regard to the flower soft, I always have the same problem with it falling off or looking sparse and so my jars sit unused on the shelf :/
Lorraine
Your snowman really pop out from the scene and the paper pieced scarf adds other dimension on it, with a fabulous 3D look!Beautiful winter background with the superlight blue and the snowy trees. The deer adds a cute feel, love it!
ReplyDeleteI can't say anything about Flower Soft, I haven't! :D
Hugs, have a lovely week!
You've created a wonderful snowy scene Mary! I have never tried using flower soft myself, but it does look very pretty. I was given some by a friend (she had stopped using it, maybe because of the problems you mentioned, I didn't ask her). I have never gotten round to trying it out! Have a wonderful week my friend! Hazel xx

Hello there Mary, brilliantly designed scene and a fabulous snowman, love your trees, I've never used flower soft so can't help, but there still seems to be some on the trees, a fantastic card for the challenge, Kate x
ReplyDeleteI love your snowman scene Mary, great die cuts and a nice bit of sparkle.
ReplyDeleteJean x
Beautiful card Mary, love your snowman, beautiful deer and trees.
ReplyDeleteI have no trouble with flower soft falling of.
I use PVA DRIES WHITE GLUE.. for my snow and adding Fowersoft ect.. put it on thick..wiggle lines to look like snow, sounds like you are being to sparc with you glue..so it will not hold anything but glitter..
Hope this helps Mary.
Pam x
This is a delightful Christmas card Mary and I love the scene with the snowy trees and the deer and then cute and fun snowman and with all the pretty glitter. A beautiful card. x
ReplyDeleteBrautiful snowman and trees; looks so fresh (and cold...) Hope you have a synny week!
ReplyDeleteLovely card, Mary. Super snowman and I love his paper pieced scarf.
ReplyDeleteSomeone told me once to stop PVA glue congealing in the nozzle, making it difficult to squeeze out, store upside down with a small lump of Blu-tack stuck over the end of the nozzle. No idea if it works, but it might be worth a try with the Flower Soft glue. xx
Love your snowy, winter scene with the adorable snowman and deer. I have trouble getting the flower soft glue out too! If I get enough, most of it seems to stay on. The air turns blue getting that glue out though!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful card, Mary!! I love the scene you've created!! The snowman is adorable!! The trees look amazing!! Peaceful and gorgeous my friend!! Have a great evening!! Big hugs :)

Sorry I missed this yesterday Mary. I just love the fabulous scene you have created with a super snowman taking prime spot. I have never used flowersoft either. I keep saying I will try it and never get round to it - maybe it's just as well judging by your experience. Hugs Christine xx

Wow, this card is just beautiful Momma Mary! I love the scene you have created and I adore that snowman. I wish I could get the look of depth on a card like you have done here. You have a hit on your hands with this one!! I gave up on flower soft glue a long time ago with the RA in my hands. I just use whatever glue I have on hand. Sounds like you might be putting your glue on to thin though, try just squeezing it on and leaving it thick. I have also heard of some people laying a scrap piece of paper on top of the glue and flower soft and running it through they Big Shot or Cuttlebug. Hope some of the tips everyone has given helps you out with it. Flower Soft is so pretty, but not the easiest to work with! lol Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteSuch good perspective Love the trees waaay back there Lis
ReplyDeleteFab snowman Mary. I like his bird house and the scene around him. Great use of die cuts. Zx
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful card Mary. Your ideas are great and I love seeing your cards. I am trying hard to pick up my life again and get back into crafting. Hugs Rita xxxx
ReplyDeleteLove your card, Mary! I'm intrigued by your willingness to layer images including fussy cutting adding dimension to your projects! Your coloring is fantastic! Terrific Christmas card and a reminder to me to get busy!
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible scene you created...just love your sweet snowman!
ReplyDeleteAwe Mary, your snowman looks just fab. I love reading how you put your cards together. Was interested in your report on flower soft and some of the comments on it above. I have one jar of the stuff in my stash (still not used and it may well stay in there now unused. Can't be doing with faffing around at the moment.) Love the background you have created for Mr Snowman. Hugs Mrs A.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card Mary. Love the sweet snow scene you've created. The trees look great with the flower soft snow ... at least some of it stuck and it looks great. I use Tombow glue to stick my flower soft down and it usually works pretty well for me, but I have to be patient and make sure it is completely dry, then brush off any "extra" loose bits on top. xx
ReplyDeleteOh, how pretty, Mary!!! Love the cute little birdhouse and your very adorable snowman all dressed up cheerfully in bright green and red!!!! The trees and deer are beautiful and you have created a lovely picture!!!! Very creatively done!!!
ReplyDeleteHave never used flower soft, but it does create a beautiful look, hey!!!! - no way I will be able to find it here!!!! :(
Hugz
I love your card and that snowman. Oh and that deer. It's just a perfect wintery Christmas card.
ReplyDeleteMy solution to Flower Soft is to get rid of the stuff. It worked wonders for me! I had all the same problems. I received a fabulous Christmas card made with it once. By the end of the Christmas season it had all flaked off. So, it isn't just us!
Great card and love the vintage looking snowman-I use soft snow on my cards same as flower soft-I have had the big jar for about three years and it keeps growing as I use it lol I use Anita's tacky glue and just make sure I press it down to make sure it sticks
ReplyDeleteCarol x
Great card Mary, I love the snowman. I have always wondered why American snowmen have three parts while ours only have two! Must investigate the history of snowmen sometime!
ReplyDeleteoh Wow! this is fantastic!
ReplyDeletexoxo Olga
This is a lovely card, Mary. I like the airbrushed sky and those lovely trees. Have that die but have not cracked it open yet!
