White Leaves, Green Leaves - Celebrate!

Good Morning and thanks for dropping in for a bit. First off, please help me welcome a new follower, Nancy Stislow.   Nancy does not have a blog _yet_ (but some of us are trying hard to convince her to start one). If you are a Splitcoast Stamper, she has a gallery there, so you may already know her work.  I met Nancy through Loll and the CAS Mix up Challenge.  Nancy has been clever enough to design a unique metal plate (think Sizzix Precision Plate only better!) to do intricate die cuts. Loll and Bonnie provided Nancy's information & I contacted Nancy for the particulars; happy to say that this new plate is in house and I am LOVING it! It's a bit thicker & heavier than the Sizzix plate, but oh, does it cut like a dream. And even more fun, I've made a lovely new friend...which to me, is the very best part!

The die cut on today's card was done using the plate, and haven't had a chance to try the intricate doily dies I have that cause me so much frustration, but I shall soon.

On to the card:

Stamps were inked with versamark, and heat embossed with Sparkle n Sprinkle white detail opaque EP. (This is by far the best white EP I've used, although there are some others that I like. This detail white gives such a nice coating as it melts, and if the stamp has fine lines - this shows up so nicely).

Did the leaves just a couple at a time, with versamark, ep, heating, (layered embossing video). This technique worked much better for me so that the only 'overstamping' done, was intentional, not because previous placement was hard to see. (thanks Bonnie & Svitlana for this technique).

After all embossing finished, used DI Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn and Stormy Sky to sponge color...liked this a lot. Used a paper towel to burnish and clean some of the ink off the white embossing.

Die cut with a stitched curved die (not sure if MFT, Lawn Fawn or PBlack). Cut a matching edge out of American Crafts black glitter.

- Used versamark over a green textured paper, then dumped SnS Sparkling Snow semi-transparent glitter over all this to create a custom shade of green glitter paper. (Saw Jennifer McGuire do this). Die cut using the Palms Die.

Stamped a sentiment using a green ombre ink.

I was quite pleased with the final results, as it was pretty much the way I'd envisioned it. Remember my mention of 'smelling green' on Mother's Day as we sat on the front porch? Well, this is the result of that fragrance!

  1. Very pretty Mary! I love the white embossing on here. I never can get mine to look good like this. Love the design on here too with that curvy die you used.
Let us know how the plate does on that doily die. I have a doily die and it's a pain to get it to cut pretty and all the way through too - even with the plate I'm using.

  2. Gorgeous card Mary. Love your layered embossing. I have tried that technique once and failed miserably. Need to give it another try. :) You have done an amazing job and I love the white embossing next to those tropical colours. Gorgeous sparkle from the black curved strip and homemade glittery palm fronds. Thanks so much for sharing with us at CAS Mix Up! And so happy you had a chance to connect with Nancy. She is such a sweet person. And happy you like the cutting plate. :) xx

  3. This is beautiful Mary and the colours are extremely pretty. I think it is very difficult to find a white EP which is a really white white but this one is great and I love the curved shape with that strong black edge. x

  6. This is gorgeous, Mary!! I love the colors!! The embossing is fabulous!! I love the SNS white detail embossing powder, too!! What a beautiful card this is!! How exciting to have a new plate!! I had to quit using metal plate because it curved so bad, it was warping my thinner dies. I don't know what I'll do with my intricate dies not :( Have a great evening!! Big hugs :)

  7. Wow, what a tropical looking card Momma Mary! It makes me happy as I think I can feel the sun and ocean breezes on my face. lol Really though! I love the colors in this card, I love the cheerful feel it gives as well. How cool that this plate that Nancy made works so well. I haven't gotten a Precision Plate yet, so that might be a good thing. It sounds like you love Nancy's plate over the Precision Plate. Hummmm, might have to check into it! Hugs, Brenda

  13. What a super card Mary, even from the thumbnail on my reading list the fresh zingy greens jumped out at me and might be just me but I thought tropical, although I know we usually associate the hotter colours with that theme, but as with all things I guess it's in the eye of the beholder. Whatever, I really do love the resist stamping and colours.

Hope you have a lovely weekend.

  16. Hi Mary, what a wonderful and fabulous zingy shades of green. I love the white embossing and your whole design is gorgeous.
This new plate for cutting sounds interesting. I always have so much trouble cutting out SB and Sue Wilson dies, I usually give up in the end and that is so frustrating.
Have a good weekend, Kate x

  20. This card is a beauty Mary and my favourite colour too. That's a great technique that I recently read about but haven't tried yet. The white embossing does look good. I have several white embossing powders and some are not very white at all. Yours looks great. I love all the texture on your card too. Barbxx

  22. Mary, this is just beautiful. The curved design is lovely for showing off the fern. I love the colors you used and they are perfect for this card. Your white embossing shows up so well and the black strip adds a touch of elegance. I can't wait to see what you will create when you "smell" other colors.

  27. Such a beautiful card Mary, I love the colours and the design is wonderful!

I use the metal plate to cut intricate dies but I find that wax paper between the die and the card works best (especially on doily dies!). You may not need the wax paper but I thought it worth a mention.

Hope you have a lovely weekend! Hugs, Anne xx

  40. Love the jungle feel to this card.

I knew a lady who insisted that all EPs were made by one of two companies, period. All of crafters know that isn't true because like you said, we all know of one or two companies that shine way above the rest! I've heard great things about Sparkle 'n Sprinkle but haven't tried them. I have another brand I think shines above the rest.
