12 Tags of Christmas

Hello again. Did some tags a few weeks ago, so I could join in the fun at the Loll & Friends Twelve Tags of Christmas. Haven't had a chance to write up some posts and share those tags, 'cause I've been busy trying to get some Thanksgiving cards done. Think I'm about to finish with that effort (got a couple more images to 'card up', and need to do inserts). Thought I'd do an evening post, and link up a tag. Remember: I'm tag challenged; there's some very awesome and beautiful tags that have been shared to provide some great inspiration. Even if you don't do tags, do take a look at what these talented, creative people do with little bits of paper tags, some trimmings & a lot of imagination! (and we'd love it if you joined in too!) The rules are in the sidebar at Stamping with Loll.

Day 7

- a kraft colored tag was  covered with white gesso, a rather patchy application - allowed to dry. Stamped with a script stamp using light brown ink (think it was Desert Sand).

Using a technique demo'd by Jennifer McGuire a Tim Holtz Sizzix tree die was first embossed into the tag surface. I inked the tree die with a coating of Versamark, and then heat embossed this after embossing with a fine detail copper (think it was WOW, but not certain). It's a pretty look, but in my effort, the die cut a bit deeper than intended. No harm done though.

- tore a piece of music pattern paper, inked that with some DI (Spiced Marmalade, Rusty Hinge? one of the yellow brown tones). Added that over the surface. Then used the same Sizzix Tree die to cut a blue shade of shimmer sheetz to add another die.

- snippet of white was stamped with the sentiment, edged with the same DI used on the music paper so that it didn't look so 'white'. Hunted up some ribbons and tied at the top. Sprinkled on a few gold & silver sequins, and called it done!  If you have any questions about the tag, I'll be glad to try to answer...it's been some weeks, but I can hunt up the products/supplies.

Thanks for joining me this afternoon. Our area is getting a lot of poor quality air (smokey) from the fires in the North Carolina area, and now we're hearing that a mountain area in our own state has got some fires raging. Hard to breathe for those of us having respiratory problems. It's a shame if arsonists deliberately set these fires!

Anyway, big hugs. I'll try to add some posts each day, if I can keep up!!! Anybody watched The Crown on Netflix? I've watched in its entirety 2 times, and midway through the 3rd viewing. Pick up something I missed each time. It's an excellent production with great casting.

  1. Mary, this is spectacular! I just LOVE all the techniques you used on this! Embossing the die was something I did try once and had a mess! Yours is beautiful. I love all the elements you added to your background too! What an outstanding job you did. So much to keep the eye busy for a long time!

  3. You are rocking your tags, Mary. I have been meaning to try embossing with a die. You used some great techniques in creating this lovey tag.

  4. I really like the layering techniques you used to create this tag! The sheet music looks perfect wedged between the 2 trees - what a great look! I hope all is well where you live with those wildfires - I cannot imagine how scary that is, but do stay safe and hopefully the fires won't come any closer to your home! I don't have Netflix, so I have no clue what the Crown is all about, but enjoy :)

  6. Forgot to say - you are the third person who has recommended The Crown to me. Once I get all my Christmas cards finished for my fundraiser sale I will give it a try!

  8. Hello Mary, your tag is beautiful, love the colours and design.
Its something that I wouldn't watch Mary, not being a royalist, it's a bit different when watching historical Queens, but this lot are very firmly in the present. Good to hear that you enjoyed it. I believe its just started on our main TV channel over here. Take care of yourself, Kate x

  13. Such a beautiful tag, love the texture you have achieved and the beautiful music paper and background, the the twine and ribbon tie too. GREAT effect.

Love the story of The Crown, seeing as I remember the stories, I lived history LOL. It's about Queen ELizabeth and Prince Philip from their early days. Great details and so well made me thinks.

  14. This is a beautiful tag Mary and I love the impressed tree with the versamark and then the copper EP used to give it a lovely shine, and the music paper in that gorgeous orange shade goes beautifully with that and the second blue shimmery tree. Lots of interest packed into this pretty tag. I have had a go at that technique of dry embossing using the Versamark and then adding your EP and it took me several tries to get it right, and I also found that the impression went a bit deep, but yours looks absolutely perfect. Hope the wild fires are soon dealt with and that in the meantime they do not come any closer. The smoke must be very unpleasant and must make you a little nervous too. Keep safe. x

  15. I have been worried about you and the smoke. I'm so sad that this could have been caused by arsonists. I hope it doesn't get closer from your mountain area fires. This tag is wonderful. I love how you "fixed" it. I love this die and may have to order it even though I have so many tree dies! You have made a fantastic tag with the coolest colors and inspired me. I love how you added the music paper and sponged on it. Be safe, my sweet friend.

another great tag and beautifully designed also.
Love all the wonderful work involved with this super design.
    Those trees are gorgeous too.
Oh I do hope you don't get affected by those fires.
That's all you need now isn't it.

  26. I have been in awe of this tag and the other with the wreath, and am not sure why you think you are tag challenged...they are both absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Totally in love with both backgrounds, and I will definitely have to try the die cut embossing. Lovely, lovely tags Mary!! :0)

  27. You always say you are tag challenged, but I don't think so Momma Mary. This tag is gorgeous! I love how you did the technique of embossing a die into the paper with embossing ink. It looks great and I love the color of embossing powder you used. Love the script stamping and that music paper. Great inking and lovely trees. A tag worthy of placing on a Christmas package! Sorry to hear that the air quality is poor due to the fires and even more sorry to hear that their are fires in your state as well. I sure hope no one started these fires, but I know there are people who are fire bugs. Breaks my heart when nature is destroyed like this. So many animals loss their habitats and people can loose everything they own. Don't know what gets into people. Never watched The Crown, but it sounds good. Might have to try and look it up if I remember to do so! Hugs, Brenda

  29. Love this tag as well. It is cool how you have the tree set up perfectly with the torn music part. Really pretty. I don't have netflix and my friend visited me on the weekend and told me I should have it because of The Crown.
