We had been advised that more rain was expected this afternoon and while the day was pretty overcast & gloomy, no rain ensued. About 3pm, Moi decided a nap might be nice, so grabbed a cozy throw, headed for one of the guest beds. Snoozing away when the rains started. Then Mr. was shaking my shoulder, saying "Put your shoes on, there's tornado warnings about, and we might need to head for the basement". (Are we ever thankful to have the thick walls and realize part of the area is under the ground level? Oh YES we are!) Watching the weather news, to see when we needed to head downstairs, and thankfully, it moved away from our area. Not so good for the other areas it was moving to, but hopefully no touch-down will cause any destruction. I don't like excitement too much ..of ANY kind!!! (never did either!)
Also would like to give a warm welcome to a new follower: Tee of The Altered Paper. Tee has some lovely tags that she entered into The Twelve Tags of Christmas Challenge hosted by my dear friend, Loll. That's how Tee & I connected, and I hope you'll have time to zip over, say hey, and enjoy some of the beautiful projects Tee has on her blog! (be sure to say I sent you, now hear?!) It's so nice to meet and make new blog friends. Tee lives close to the area where the August Cincinnati Stampaway Show is held, so who knows, maybe one day we might meet face to face????
On to today's card: Mr has a neighbor friend who enjoys cars with him. They go to lots of car shows (several others in our area join them as well). This particular friend is rebuilding an old truck, using the colors that are associated with a popular college here in our area. On Thanksgiving day, he was out playing with his grands, slipped and broke a hip. So a special card was requested, and I had to hunt out this stamp set we had bought on one of our visits to Sparkle n Sprinkle when there was still a physical store (since then SnS only has online sales).
- SnS Henry 596 (available in digi format too) stamped on Xpress, colored with Copics (Mr. chose the colors that his friend's truck has). In case you see red, this is actually done in the YR(yellow red) Copic colors. Used WoS on the seat upholstery, Glossy Accents on the windshield, some silver WoS for the car metal parts.
- S/B Label one die cut and also the faux mat.
- C/Bug embossing folder (it's an old one -- don't remember the name.) It's always reminded us of the metal used on the toolboxes frequently seen attached on a pickup truck bed). Used silver mirror card to emboss this, adhered over the white card base; deliberately cut it so that I could apply the b&w stripe border(WR Memory Keepers Shape & Tape). This is not Washi tape. Bought the product thinking it was sticky on the backing. There's several different designs in the package. And it was not sticky :-(
Hope you enjoy Mr's card. He stipulated the image and EF, basically designed it, I just did the work!!! Oh, and his friend had successful hip replacement surgery, is doing well, and will be doing the rehab therapy.
Hugs and come again when you can.
So pleased the tornado didn't materialise where you live Mary but as you say hopefully it didn't touch down anywhere else either. I adore your red truck and the great sentiment with it, and I bet your DH's friend will have smiled at this cute image. I love the background, a bit like a tyre tread too I think, and looks great in silver. x
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you are safe from the tornadoes. A basement is a must have where I live in Tornado Alley. I'm so glad you are okay.
ReplyDeleteYour card is so adorable!! That broken down jalopy is so darn cute!! I love the embossing and sentiment, too!! What a fabulous card!! Have a great evening my friend!! Big hugs :)

What a great masculine card, Mary! AndI love the way Mr. designed it. He (an you) did an awesome job! The weather has been so strange lately. Between tornadoes and droughts and fires. Just praying that everyone makes it through this time of the year. I'll keep your friend in my prayers. It's amazing what they can do with joints these days. My SIL had knee replacement the week before Thanksgiving and she was up walking around on it for Thanksgiving and I could hardly tell. Amazing!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you are safe and the tornado didn't come your way. It did do damage and my heart goes out to those who were in it. This card is just perfect as get well for a car person. I bet he loved it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous cheer 'em up card you've made for your neighbor, Mary! He will love it, poor guy! We have to be so careful of our feet now! I'm sorry you had all that becitement of a possible tornado, but I'm ever so glad to hear that it skirted your area and you two are safe!! Hugs, Darnell

OMGosh Momma Mary, a tornado?!!!! Glad you have a sturdy house and a basement to go to!!! I know in Conway, they don't have basements. Glad the tornado missed your area, but hope no one else was injured or killed from it. Oh no, poor hubby's friend! I always told Dwayne that he only got injured when he was playing. lol Sounds like that is what happened with this man. Hubby couldn't have picked a better stamp or embossing fold, which is called "diamond plate" I think. I adore this image but it is the sentiment that makes me smile and I'm sure this card will make hubby's friend smile too. So glad the surgery was a successful and he is on the mend. Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are ok and no damage from storm. Love your card. So great for a masculine card. Hope your friend is going to be ok.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary,
ReplyDeleteso glad everything is alright and that Tornado missed your area.
It must be very frightening to think of the damage it could have done.
I am so sorry to hear about your DH friend not a nice thing to happen.
Love this super and gorgeous card.
That image is so sweet and very appropriate.
Love the wonderful silver embossed background as it looks just like metal.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.
Thank you for the shout out Mary! I have had some visits and hopefully new blog friends to visit! Your card and sentiment is adorable! Such a fun card guaranteed to bring a smile.
ReplyDeleteHaha Mary, this is how I have been last three and half weeks, cool card though and amazing colours too. Have a fun weekend.xx{aNNie}

It's always a relief to have tornadoes and other icky weather conditions pass us by, isn't it? Glad you have a safe place to go - it would be nice to have a basement here for sure!
ReplyDeleteYour Get well card is wonderful with that dry embossed background and fantastically colored jalopy! The card is perfect for the hip replacement ordeal! So glad your friend came through it ok, and I hope his recovery is a quick one! hugs, de
Amazing get well card...just amazing. I love that car and your metallic background is just fabulous!
ReplyDeleteA great card Mary and one that I am sure will bring a smile to the face of your husband's friend. Glad you were spared the tornado. We are so thankful we do not get such extreme weather - usually. The worst we have to deal with is flooding.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your hubby's friend. This card is a scream though and will be sure to get him on the road to recovery in no time. Scary about the tornado. I love a good storm, but that's a bit much. I'm with you--leave the adventures to other folks. Although we did discover a fish tank leak though and had a bit of adventure there. A few hours later the fish were in a new tank and all was well in the world.
ReplyDeleteThis is a funny card and one sure to uplift the man who loves cars. I love the colouring
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic image he is, perfect for friends on the older side who would appreciate the humour. As always beautifully coloured.
