Penny Black Hedgie Says Happy Easter

Good evening, and thanks for stopping for a visit. Thought I'd give you a break from St. Pat's cards, and finish up an Easter card. This cute little PB Hedgie lady was colored years ago. It's a clear set called Tiny Wishes.  Found the colored image in the stash, added more contrast to her dress, selected a S/Binder to die cut, and off I did go.

- Miss Hedgie was shopping (I think), but decided to go with the 'Easter Bonnet' and use this as a card for Easter. When I was a child, everyone had an Easter outfit to wear, and the ladies wore hats (sometimes the little girls did too). I think that's a tradition that has disappeared these days. Copic coloring, WoS on the Rose, and although the photo doesn't show it, a little drop of Nuvo Jewel Drop (Grey Mist) - which dries clear and looks like dew on the flower. These Nuvo Crystal and Jewel drops are easier to control the size of the 'drop' (at least for me) than the liquid pearls were. Really like the ones I've used.

- S/Binders Oval Bliss to die cut Miss Hedgie, then used Memento Dewdrop sized inks to add some color at the edge. After making the background, thought there needed to be another color between Ms H and the background, so found an oval S/B that sort of fit the shape, to do an underlayer.

- Artplorations Delicate Leaves stencil - embossed over white c/s, then used brushes to add color: DI Milled Lavendar, Dewdrop size turquoise shade, keeping the corner areas darker. Then used some old small floral stamps to add darker pink & some turquoise flowers over the stenciling. Trimmed down this piece, added tiny strips of the same turquoise mat shade at the edges of the white card base.

- Sentiment stamped and punched with an oval punch. Yay, first Easter card done!!!

Big Hugs, and hope it's nice where you are this afternoon. It's been overcast here with some very early morning rain. Come again when you have time. I'll be back to visit you too. Sometimes when leaving comments, I'm not always certain Blogger publishes - if I have time, when I go back to check, I don't see my comment. I know with comment moderation on, it won't publish immediately - but I do try to get back to all my sweet visitors.

  8. Hi Mary,
oh how cute is that image, and you have coloured it perfectly too.
Love the oval die cut that is so very pretty too, and your wonderful created background just finishes off the card perfectly.
Someone is going to love receiving that.
Yes I remember too having new clothes shoes and a hat for Easter, and most people wearing hats at the time.
I used to get so excited, and some times my Mum would stay up all night making our new dresses for me and my 2 sisters.
Once we had lovely gold ones that my grandmother embroidered fairies on.
So thank you for reminding me of that wonderful memory.
Love and big hugs from my house to yours.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.

  11. This is such a sweet Easter Hedgie Mary and what a pretty SB die you have used to frame her, and I love the colours you have used on the stencilled background with the added little stamped flowers too. A beautiful card. x

  12. Miss Hedgie looks very cute in her Easter bonnet. It's a very pretty card Mary. I love the PB critters. They're always so cute. I used to have Sunday best clothes to wear to church and Sunday School when I was little. My Nan had been a seamstress and used to make my coats and velvet dresses with smocking.

I'm also trying to use some of my "already stamped" images too. I have a huge plastic box full as I often stamp a couple of extras before cleaning the stamps. Probably not a good idea!

We're having awful weather today. It's raining and blowing and apparently we've more to come. I don't think I'll be going far! Barbxx

  13. Mary, when I was a little girl, every Easter I yearned for an Easter hat like my mother and other adult ladies wore. Your little hedgie is definitely in her Easter best! The stencil background is so delicately colored. The die cut layers are so complementary. And to think that you've had this little lady colored up for years! This is such a sweet card.

  15. Love this little image and that you "Easterized" her! Beautifully colored. Your home-made background is really super. I wouldn't have thought to overstamp with the little floral stamps but it really pulls the card together, using the pink. Like the green underlayer too - makes her bonnet pop. Yes, those were the days with little Easter bonnets!

  17. Love the cute image and beautiful die-cut frame-we always used to have a new outfit for Easter too and new sandals and white ankle socks-probably because our parents couldn't afford to buy new clothes as often as they can nowadays so it was a bit of an occassion when they did

  25. Your hedgie is so cute in her dress and hat. Having shoes on is so cute too! I do like the S/B dies you used to matt her. I remember always going shopping for a new Easter outfit. I got a dress, new patent leather shoes if my others were too small and a little short coat that my mom called a "topper". It was a big deal to have new clothes to wear to church and Easter dinner.

  28. Great idea to add the green colored cardstock for the inner part of the cut out pattern to be better seen. I've got a few dies that I could use this way. Sweet image!

  29. OMGosh, I love this hedgie Momma Mary! She is adorable all dressed up in her Easter finest!! Yes, always got a new outfit as a child and always had a hat and gloves to wear as well! Love loved my fancy dress, hat and gloves and of course you had to have shiny shoes too! Nope, no one dresses up for Easter any more which is sad. No one dresses up for church every Sunday either! I can't believe that people wear shorts to church in the summer as well as tank tops! Yes, things have changed big time and not for the better! Hugs, Brenda
