Yesterday I submitted my first ever post on a Design Team at Jo's Scrap Shack, Friday Fun Day. We had the following inspiration photo to use as guidelines, but we also have a wonderful digi sponsor for this Fun Day - Whimsy Stamps. You'll have to forgive me that yesterday I didn't use the sweet digi stamp I had from Kathryne, as I thought that was _Next Week's_ assignment. Well, I'm on a new learning curve, and I'll get it right eventually! Since I had the card using this digi almost completed, I finished it last night, and am sharing it today, and linking once again to Jo's Scrap Shack Friday Fun Day. Our hostess has had a health issue which necessitated postponement of yesterday's challenge. When saw this news on her post yesterday afternoon after realizing my boo-boo, I thought I'd go ahead and share this cute little digi on the card I made - using the inspiration photo below.
Now for the card:
- the digi is the delightful to color Lizzie, from Whimsy Stamps. I've only done very minimal paper piecing before now, and thought this would be a good opportunity to try on this cute little stamp. I printed the image onto Copic Xpress paper, then reprinted on 2 different patterned papers. I cut out the umbrella from pale blue, then her bathing suit & beach shoes from green. I had already decided she would have blonde hair and the beach towel would be pink & turquoise. (It's only purest coincidence that our DD has blonde hair, and used to love this color combo when she was a teenager). I debated on piecing the ribbon bow on the umbrella, but decided it was too tiny for my skill level. Copics were used to color the rest of this image, along with some spica pen glitter on her lemonade & the sun glints in her hair. This was an 'easy color' doing this image, I must say. Used a dot effect for the sand under the towel, added a little clear spica pen around this area....sun sparkling on crushed sea shells, don't you know??? On a bright sunny South Florida beach day, the glimmer would hit your eyes as you walked toward water edge. This little digi girl brought back a lot of memories for DH & I. (This one got his seal of approval, and he knew exactly why I chose the colors).
- spellbinder Scalloped circles in 2 sizes were used for the diecuts.
- textured pink Bazzill square background trimmed to size, embossed with a Darice Dots folder, then used a Spellbinder pennant die to cut the snippets trimming that square.
Think I've told you about moving a sewing machine down to the stamp area, but this was my first time to use it on a card. Put a glue dot on each pennant, placed in position, and bzzzzz...away went Little Betsy (an oldish Singer that I used to take to quilting classes. Not one of the Featherweights, which was on my bucket list to own, at the time.). Couldn't reach the footpedal as too many boxes under the table were in my way, so I just hand turned the wheel. _That_ situation is going to get remedied this weekend, cause I think I liked sewing on the card!
Adhered all the layers to a lighter blue textured square, added some trim from a sale pack of Recollection Sweet Flora 8.5 x 11 paper pack. Also found another DP that had surf board images on the reverse side, so trimmed one out to stamp the sentiment on. Thought this fit in with the beach theme.
Think this is going to be a birthday card for the DD...I colored Miss Lizzie with thoughts of my own Miss as I worked away.
Hope you will enjoy this one, and also take a look at what the other team members at Friday Fun Day have submitted. Maybe even play along; we'd love to see what inspires you from the photo above. Also check out Whimsy Stamps....you're sure to see an image you'd love to color.
In the meantime - have a beautiful day. We have delightful weather, almost feel a touch - just a touch mind - of fall in the air. I might even go out to do a little weeding after the laundry is finished. There's a breeze, and temp is in the mid 70's. And no mugginess so far! Thanks for visiting, and Hugs.

You have done a fabulous job of paper piecing, I must admit it is something I like to do if I have plenty of time. Unfortunately sewing machine skills are not for me, but your look great. How nice to make a card that bring lovely memories of your DD
ReplyDeleteKind regards from across the pond Joan P
What a cute bathing beauty. You've paper pieced her so pretty and I love how the sentiment piece looks like a surfboard. Nice stitching, too. My sis gave me a new sewing machine and I have used it once. I want to use it but can't sew a straight stitch. Ha I need a lot of practice.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is sure to love this card.
Have a wonderful day.
Congratulations of your DT position! Love this precious card!
ReplyDeleteOhhhh Mary such a sweet image and beautifully done!!!!! Hey girlie, congratulations on the DT. You rock!!!!!! Love the card!!!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteGosh I don't know if my other comment went through or not because I was not signed in to Google, so excuse if it did before. :-) Anywho.....just wanted to say what a beautiful card and so nicely done. Makes me want to head back to FL to see the ocean and the palm trees. You did a great job Ms. Mary and I am so proud of you and your first DT. I can remember that feeling and it is a good one. You rock girlfriend. Keep up the good work!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome paper-piecing, Mary! Plus fabulous colours, colouring and shading! Your card is gorgeous! Love it! You've made Lizzie look very beautiful. Love her hair! I'd love to see the sand up closer - it looks amazing. It's a pleasure to sponsor your challenge. xx Kathryne
