Impression Obsession Watercan

Hello friends & thanks for visiting this afternoon. Have you ever colored an image, thought it looked ok, then begin to turn it into a card, and one thing after another just doesn't 'look right'? And each additional thing you try, doesn't work any better? Well today's card is just one of those for me. Here it is:

- Impression Obsession cling red rubber, which stamped out crisply, colored up easily. I was happy up to this point.

- die cut & dry embossed with S/B Labels 38, (still happy!) ----- then it went downhill from that point, when I decided to add a little vintage touch with DI tea dye & pumice sponging. The image was still in the die; thought it was placed properly & got one edge done ok. Then the die must have slipped without my notice as I kept going around the edges with the sponge applicator. When I lifted the die, to reveal the white 'frame' that should show around the edges, some of that frame obviously wasn't even. So how to fix it? Well, sponge the whole thing to the very edge, right? That didn't look appealing, so then out comes this distress tool thing-y, which I scrape around the edges. Then comes decisions as to mat & card base colors. Should it be cream mat with kraft base card, or vice versa? You can see what I chose, and I didn't like this combination either way I tried it. Other color combos didn't look any better to my very discouraged eyes.

- Elizabeth Craft Hello sentiment die, done from 3 layers of a snippet of Dylusions sprayed paper that had been cluttering up the desk. I was ok with that. The thought of burlap occurred to me, so went rummaging around the ribbon box, dragged out this open weave pattern. Not all that great, but better than some other pieces I tried. Off to the button box, and found 3 old buttons. After the buttons, I called it quits! Not sure if this one will ever get mailed, but dang it, I had worked hard on that coloring, and I was pure disgusted with this wart!!!

So thanks for stopping by, letting me vent a little bit, and I hope you can laugh along with all my mistakes on this one. I trust I'm not the only one this ever happens to! Many hugs. Come again soon.

Edit: Some sweet blogger just reminded me this has a butterfly and can fly over to Mrs. A's Butterfly Challenge. So it's jumping over the pond to join in with the Summertime Butterfly Theme. Thank you sweet person, who knows who you are!!!

  2. Hi Mary,

We are our worst critics. I think the card looks great just the way it is. It sounds like you had quite a struggle with it, but in the end, it's the way it's supposed to be, don't you think? Anyone would be happy to receive this card.

  8. I can't believe you aren't happy with this card. The instant I saw it, I loved it. The ribbon is fabulous and the scene so beautiful. I was oohing and awing over the ribbon first thing.

But, yes, I have had several things to go downhill as I worked on them. Haven't we all? I can't consider this as one of yours because I love it. I really like buttons on cards, too.

  10. I thought your card was great when I popped over to your blog, I think you are being a bit too self critical. Maybe it didn't end up as you had envisioned in your head but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it at all. I love the scene, you have coloured it beautifully.

  16. Oh Mary, is there something in the air? I have been having problems with a card today too as you will see when I put up my next post. But actually, I think this card is just fine and dandy and it definitely has the vintage/country look with that burlap and the buttons and the distressed edges work really well. A lovely card. x

  17. I know perfectly what you mean Mary. I've had it too or like writers can have a writers block I've had sometimes a crafters block when I was halfway a card.
Couldn't seem to finish it and whatever I tried I didn't like it. In the end this particular card took me over a week, big sigh. BUT your card I do like. I find it very pretty and well done.

  29. This card has a homey and yet rustic look and feel, Mary. The slight "imperfections" as you might call them are quite interesting visually. I think this card is beautifully conceived and executed. You are too hard on yourself, my friend!

  30. Oh Momma Mary, I feel your pain, but I think this is one beautiful card! I love everything about it, I wouldn't have realized there was a thing wrong with it. I think when we aren't happy with something we are doing (like me with my camper card) we can't "see" right and only notice the things that displease us. I guess we get tunnel vision. lol I love that image and how you colored it, it was the perfect image for some distressing and adding burlap. The burlap gives that country feel and adds so much texture. I love the colors on this card too, and I know you weren't feeling these colors, but to me they are perfect. Love, love those buttons too!!! Well I think I'm all caught up with you. I swear just going away for a few days has me so behind that I don't think I will ever catch up. So some blogs I've had to just skip. Some I won't skip because the people are just to important to me, like you Momma Mary! Big hugs, Brenda

  31. Hi Mary I think your card is lovely. It is a super stamp and you coloured it so well, and the added distressing, burlap and buttons give a rustic country appeal.
As stamps are really my favourite thing my cards often start with a stamped image carefully coloured and then no idea how to present as a card, so I quite understand how you feel. I am so glad you didn't discard it though as I am sure it will add a little sunshine to someones day.

  38. You're being far too hard on this card Mary! It has a total country look to it and I love it! The burlap and the buttons are a great touch and even now that I know about the distressed edges - I still don't see what you mean! Great job - my only complaint is - it has the beginning of fall to it - and I'm not ready to give up summer yet!! JK!
