Rudolph Day

Hello from cloudy Upstate South Carolina. Caring thoughts & prayers going out to those of you who are in the path of these storms that are sweeping across our part of the USA. I pray all of you & your families stay safe. We keep hearing that our area's chances of heavy thunderstorms is increasing, but so far, I'm just seeing some dark skies here & there.

I wanted to say a big thank you to Miss Margaret (Dutchess) for being so helpful recently. Miss Margaret is a member of the Christmas Card Club that 'meets' every 2 weeks. I wished to add a member list on my sidebar. Didn't know how, so Margaret gave me some excellent & precise instructions, which I was able to follow successfully. That's solely due to her wonderful directions!  Thanks again Margaret.

Today's 2 cards for the Rudolph Challenge have been finished for a bit, but I needed to catch up on some visits & comments before these were posted. Both images were found during the recent snippet sorting.

- PB Hedgie - love those little guys! Colored with copics. WoStella on the berries for some glisten. Die cut with a new S/B Labels 36*.

- Sponged some DI Sage while the image was still in the die. Made a rough mask for Hedgie's body and then inked a script stamp with Memento Desert sand to stamp the background. Inked off once - so the script would be more subtle.

- faux red mat cut from the same size die. The red was a snippet just the right size, and the cardstock has some gold glimmer spots in the paper, some of which shows up at the top left on the mat.

- Card shape and card front was cut with a larger die from the S/B Label 36. Green DP is from a Christmas 12x12 DCWV pack bought years ago.

- Elizabeth Craft sentiment sticker. Didn't want to cover up little hedgie. Doesn't he just look so happy dancing along with his holly?

This may be an Impression Obsession snowman stamp - again, it was from the snippet sorting, so I don't remember. DieNamics pierced circle die; then added someWoStella sparkles on the scarf, stickles on the snow, and some Flower Soft to the hat fur.

- S/B scalloped circle for the glitter paper mat. Same paper provided the snippet strips top & bottom.

- Glitter papers were from a DCWV 12x12 pack bought years ago. These papers are a bit heavy, and make the card curl, so some weight will have to be applied to try to get this curl fixed. Don't want to flatten the Viva Décor pearl trim, though. I was so pleased to get all the little pearls just the right size. The Viva Décor pearl pen works better for me than does the liquid pearls when doing this little trick. These were done with a red pen, but white pearls can be made, let dry, then color with a copic marker. When this is done, I make the pearls on the non-stick mat, color after drying. Scoop up with a knife or pick, dab some glue, place where desired.

- Elizabeth craft sentiment sticker. These sheets are so handy when you need a  small sentiment that doesn't cover up card details.

Pixie's Crafty Workshop Snippets Playground - from where I have been absent far too long! Each of the cards has some snippety bits, so I think I have an entry ticket! I miss seeing Little Parsnip (and Miss Pixie of course!). Also got a glimpse of some delicious cards already entered, so check out both these places. You've still got time to enter cards at both places!

Thanks for popping by this afternoon. We did put the porch swing back on the chains, so we're good to go with the porch setting. Hugs

*Flowers to Flourishes and Molly's Square have been having some good buys on the new 2014 Spellbinder dies recently. I'm pleased to say the shipping has been satisfactory.

  1. Hi Mary,

Both cards so so cute! How many Christmas cards are you up to now? I hear the Playground is fun; one of these days I'll join in! Can't wait to retire so I can be a bit more "active."

    Hugs,

  2. Oh, those hedgies are always the cutest things to put on a card! I love the little guy carrying his holly stem in anticipation of the big holiday! The little snowman is cute too with his furry hat and glittered ribbon border! Fun cards!
Were you the one who mentioned you missed the SU! stocking when it was available? I'm not sure if it was you, or if you meant the die or the punch, but the bigz die is on the clearance rack today at the SU! clearance rack!

  3. Hi Mary! I realized it had been a while since we've checked in on each other. I wanted to check to see if you were safe from the storms and I see that you are. Just rain...it's raining up here as well. (Remember we've moved right across from Buffalo, NY.) The Christmas cards are adorable! Glad to see all is well. We need to catch up a little! Hugs, Marianne

  8. Two wonderful cards, Mary! They are both lovely, but my fave is the little hedgie. I have some questions about it so will email you as I currently owe you a reply!

Love the subtle script over the hedgie too!

The second is so lovely and glimmery.I know what you mean about the glitter paper can curl. Sometimes it comes out with weighting the card, but sometimes I have had to cut off the front and adhere it to a stronger weight, handmade card base.

  15. Two adorable cards and you know I love snowmen. The hedgie is just adorable with the holly.

I like how you made your pearls. I only have the liquid pearls in one or two colors and never remember to use them. I will have to try the pen you used.

I hear there is bad weather in SC. Hope not in your area.

  22. I am so loving both of these sweet cards Momma Mary! That little hedgie is my favorite though, he is just to cute skipping along with his holly and of course you have him just colored up so perfectly. Loving the shape of this card also. Your snowman card is awful cute too. I love how you have him colored too. The papers that you have used for both cards are really pretty. Love the shimmery gold on the red. And love how shimmery and "snowy" the papers look on the snowman card. Love those pearls too! Hugs

  25. These are both just adorable. That little hedgehog is too cute for words. Love the idea of the sentiment stickers. I agree that it's nice to be able to see the entire image without covering it up with part of a die cut. Love your striped background on the snowman card too. Great job on both Mary.

  29. Beautiful Christmas designs Mary. We caught the tail end of the storms, heavy heavy rains and high winds, and it's still cold, it's not a good Spring so far, but I'll keep positive that nice weather is coming soon :) Cheers, Shirleyx

  31. Both of these Christmas cards are great Mary. The PB Hedgie with his holly is so cute, and love the labels shape for the card and the layers. The snowman is just gorgeously glittery, and the flower soft for his hat works beautifully. Nice unusual diagonals on the background too. x

  32. I thought I would send a separate comment about the queries on my Winter Wonderland card as I know like me you moderate. Thank you for the lovely comments you made Mary and with regard to the shadows, I think I was in rather a hurry to get it posted and I didn't explain the steps as well as I should have. For the shadows I used a strip of copy paper which I tore in to an uneven shape with a few gentle curves. I put this down where I wanted the shadows and then using a piece of blending foam I used grey and then subsequently some black on it. I usually use the copy paper to remove a bit of the ink before it gets to the work itself, that way you are less likely to leave lines or be too heavy handed. I just worked around using the copy paper as an edge until I got the right depth of colour. It is sometimes difficult to know when to stop adding colour. I think in the main less is more, especially if like me you are a bit of a beginner, and sometimes impatient trying to add the colour too fast. I hope this is of some help and also if you go to You Tube and put in Barbara Gray Claritystamp she does do bits of video showing these techniques which is probably better than my convoluted explanation. I hope you have escaped the nasty storms which you mention. x

  41. Great Christmas cards! I have been slacking in my Rudolph duties lately, and pretty much all card making duties. I keep saying that one day I'll get back on track... don't be holding your breath though! I love the wee sticker greetings. Sometimes you need a little greeting to not distract from the main image.
