Christmas Card Club - Cute

Hello and welcome. Today's post is for our lovely Christmas Card Club ladies. We make & share Christmas cards all year long, posting for each challenge every 2 weeks (or as my Brit friends would say 'fortnight'.). Each member gets to choose a theme, and we try to make cards around that idea, and it certainly helps to have a nice stash come December. This time our sweet Sylvie of Gibmiss wanted to see Cute. So I hope this card will be deemed 'Cute'--- I thought the image was cute when we found it in a sale bin at a stamp show.

- Impression Obsession (designed by Hannah Davies) cling rubber, inked in Tuxedo Black, colored with bright colors of copics. Added some lines in the birds' wings with a turquoise pentel pen, also used some fine line Staedtler Fine Liner pens (found mine at Target...but Amazon has these). Covered over some of the colored areas with WoStella, which managed to smear the turquoise, but still looks ok! Added SU Crystal Effects, which shines nicely IRL.

- Nuvo Crystal Drops (bright gold)

- Gina Marie Scalloped Square Frame die - this creates inner portion and a frame. Colored frame with copics, added some Crystal effects. After drying, placed the birds back in the frame. Matted with black, card base covered with a 6x6 pack of DP, that was on sale. (very thin DP - but some pretty patterns. Chose this chevron because it had the tropical colors of these goofy birds in the pattern)

- EK Success Tree punch - 2 layers. One from a snippet of green dots. Stamped an HLS Mixed Christmas Sentiment embossed with Ranger Liquid Platinum (close up below). Then stamped another tree from clear package plastic snippet, tied some silver twine through the star that was punched with a small handpunch (you know, the kind we used to make holes with in school, but this one has a tiny star! It didn't like the plastic either!!!).

This closeup shows the sentiment better.

I'd be interested in hearing from you, if my links to products used, is at all helpful..OR if it may be distracting as you're reading. I don't know how to add all the product pics the way I've seen it done on other blogs. If it's more distracting than helpful, then I'll stop doing it!!! Sometimes I can't always find a good link. If a product is used that you want more details than I provide, do please contact me and I'll try to help if I can.

I hope you'll check out the Christmas Club member links as shown in the right sidebar. It's always such fun to see how each interprets the challenge theme.

Have a wonderful day, and God Bless. Big hugs too!

  1. A very pretty card Mary and a great idea to layer a clear tree over the top to put the sentiment on to, and what a cute image too, and beautifully coloured, and your gold Nuvo drops are perfect. x

  3. This is gorgeous, Mary!! I love the image!! You colored it beautifully!! The tree with the sentiment overlay looks amazing!! Stunning my friend!! I think the links are helpful!! I used to add the pics with links at the bottom a couple of years but it was so time-consuming, I quit doing it. I do appreciate being able to click on a link if I want more info on a product. I hope you have a wonderful evening!! Big hugs :)

  11. A great card - love the fun image and your Christmas trees add the perfect finishing touch. I like to know what products have been used but have no preference if there is a link or not - does that help?

  12. This Christmas card sure does qualify for cute Momma Mary! Those birds are totally cute (and they make me smile!) and I love how you have colored them up. Love the holly too they are perched on. Your sweet little scalloped frame is another cuteness factor to this card. Well maybe sweet is a better word for it. How clever of you to add the sentiment to the tree, love that idea! Hugs, Brenda

  17. What a lovely Christmas card! The whimsical little birds are definitely cute and I love how you colored them! I love how the image is framed by the square scallop die cut. I agree with Lisa, helpful but time consuming for you. When I post a card I just want to get it posted. It seems to take a long time to do and from my observation, I think that there are only a very few people that actually read the post completely. You can usually tell by the comments they leave.
    Have a great day!

  18. This is so wonderfully cute! It has a sort of zany Xmas feel.
I lovat scalloped rectangle die. So versatile! Also love the Nuevo gold

I am glad you included the close up of the tree tag. I did not catch that the sentiment was there. Once I saw the close up, I then was able to spy it as well as the sweet star punched out for the glitter thread. Brilliant idea there!

  19. The image is just as cute as a button Mary, your colouring is wonderful and I love the design of the card. I find word links very helpful, especially if I am interested in a product, it is the picture ones I find distracting - I tried those myself but gave up as it is so much extra work! Hugs, Anne xx

  20. Me again
Sorry, but I forgot to comment on your links question.

I link any type of reference to the supplies used. When I have time, I do a recipe near the bottom of my post...but most of the time, I just mention in my descriptive part of how I made the card, just what I used.

When I read others posts, I see lots of different ways to describe or to link to supplies. Making links at the end of the post to what you used and where you purchased is lovely...but...way to time consuming for me. I am barely able to get round to visit at the mo so linking that way is not important to me.

When I read another's post, I can always google where to find the supplies as long as I know the name and manufacturer.

No sure about the links Mary, but they are helpful for folk wanting to know what you've used etc. It's time consuming to do though, hope all is well with you and that your repair work is coming along, Kate x

  35. This card is definitely cute, Mary. It's also whimsical and fun. The colors are perfect. I love the tree. It's nice of you to add links. I appreciate the time it takes to add them. I use a lot of old products - discontinued stamps mostly - so I don't use links. Plus, I'm slow enough in posting so definitely don't need to add to what I post - LOL! Either way you go - adding product links or not - I enjoy your blog very much :)

I'm hoping that in July, I will have started some myself! :) the colorful birds are so fn and I just love the touches of gold everywhere!! Fabulous idea to take the layered trees for a tag and place the sentiment on. TFS this happy and fun design! HUGS

  39. A very unusual design Mary. I like the bright colours you have used and how you have constructed the card, though to be honest it's not an image that would instantly appeal to me. I tend to be a traditional Christmas kind of gal! Having said that I appreciate what you have done with it.

  43. Your card is so whimsical (and cute!) I love the bold fun and funky colors on it. As for your links to products I'm on a strict stamping budget so I just bleep over them and pay them no mind. I do like to know who makes a product if I am interested in it so it is nice you mention. I put my info discreetly down in "the fine print."
