Rudolph Day - Christmas in July 2014

Good evening, big surprise as I'm back with a 2nd post today. Have been working on cards hoping to get ready in time to submit to the Rudolph Day Challenge  hosted by Our Miss Sarn over at Stamping for Pleasure.  Rules are pretty simple, and are posted at the top of Sarn's blog. The Challenge is open beginning the 25th of each month and ends the last day of the month. There must be 2 festive cards, but can be duplicates if you like. The Rudolph Day Challenge is a super way to build a stash of Christmas cards too.

Here goes:

- Focal image is from a recycled card received years ago  ...die cut with a pierced square. Snippet of gold glitter paper was die cut with a Lil Inker stitched square (center portion removed).

- Blue background (sort of a snippet from the next card) was embossed with a new Bon Jour Couture Creations folder (bottom portion only) that was seen here. Loved the look and Googled the folder name - found it at Crop Stop * (check bottom of post for a coupon code from Crop Stop)*.  Sponged Gold Delicata ink around the edges & some of the embossing with a finger dauber.

- another tiny snippet of some VOS (very old stuff) was cut in half to fill in the edges of the card base so the white didn't show. I can see that I need to do a little trim at the top left edge. Isn't it so aggravating that you don't notice this kind of thing until you see in the photo when doing the post...but maybe that just happens to ME!

- Oval punched sentiment came from the same card, and was sponged around the edge with Delicata ink.
 Next up:

- Image has been stamped for quite a while, but think it was an Inkadinkadoo stamp done with Memento Danube Blue, heat embossed with clear powder. Since the image is so detailed, chose to keep the card simple. Die cut with a classic circle S/B that fit (for the most part) the shape.

- Blue mat is also the card base, and was die cut with a Lil Inker circle die, with the hinge at the top.(left over bit was used on the card above).

- Elizabeth Craft sentiment from a sliver snippet of silver glitter paper.(can you say silver sliver snippet 3 times, real fast? - this was a very tiny piece that should have been tossed. Came in handy though.)

The hardest part of this card was finding a circle that would cut the image and not cut away too much of the design.

So off we go to link up at Rudolph Day,July 2014 and since there's some snippets on each card, I'm going to play over in the Snippets Playground, Week 135. Ya'll c'mon and let's play!

*Crop Stop has some great embossing folders, but is now beginning to sell the gorgeous Sue Wilson dies. After my last purchase of the Bon Jour EF & some Wilson dies, Miss Haylie Jo visited my blog and happened to see the post on Chuck the dachshund. She is a doxie owner too, and very generously offered my readers a coupon code - CHUCK - for 10% off your orders for the remainder of 2014. There's also free shipping with a minimum order, so check the tab with Shipping & Returns info. Crop Stop does international shipping as well. All my orders have arrived most promptly and if an item is back ordered, I get an email with the information - which I find helpful. Again, just doing my part to enable anyone who needs more enabling! Haylie Jo is the kind person who found the Kars Falling Snow embossing folder for me, when I couldn't find one anywhere else. She just happened to have one left - although it wasn't shown on the site. I emailed the contact info, asking if anybody knew where I could purchase this folder. Haylie sent it to me - bless her sweet heart! That's my kind of customer service. (and no I'm not being paid to say any of this either!!!!)

  12. Two lovely cards Mary. I love the embossing folder and the nativity scene. I was hunting for that last week because I had seen it used on a project on facebook. It kind of lends itself to cutting with vinyl. It is an Inkadinkadoo image but sadly the stamp is no longer in production. They are using modern, realistic sketched images now instead. So take care of your stamp. It can't be replaced. Good use of a 'saved' image in your first card too. Kate x

  13. Both of these cards are an absolute delight Mary, I really love the first one with the gorgeous blue scene and the second one is stunning, I love the simplicity of it and yet there is so much to see! Both cards are gorgeous! Hugs, Anne xx

  14. Two very different cards, Mary. I like the blue colour scheme and also having a more 'religious' theme. I think the second one is my favourite, simple but a beautiful image, and an unusual shape. This is a mantelpiece one, not a hung on the string around the ceiling one!

  15. Wow Mary - two lovely cards here! I have that Bon Jour EF too and adore it used either way, side to side or up and down. Whisper, I also happen to know where Sarn got hers from:)

So funny about the Kars Falling Snow EF - I actually found one VERY similar but a different make a few weeks back when Bonnie was using hers and now alsohave a spare in the toy box as a prize some time soon.

I'm off to check that shop link out - it's all YOUR fault if I end up spending!!

    Hugs, Di xx

The background is just stunning with those itty bitty stars! Your circle card is quite pretty too and reminds me of the Willow Blue dishes I've always wanted to collect :) Haylie Jo is one awesome person for her special efforts to please you! Bravo!!

  17. Two more lovely cards, you are on a roll Mary! Love the angel and the lovely embossed background, and then then the pretty nativity scene in that lovely blue which as you rightly say stands out on its own and looks great with the faux stitch die cut circle behind. x

  18. Wow, I am loving how you recycled an old Christmas card Momma Mary! That angle is so pretty and you did is justice in the way you used it on this card. I love, love everything about this card! No you aren't the only one that finds something that needs to be done to your card after you photograph it. lol It happened to me all the time. Your second card is amazing too. I love that image and so glad you were able to find a circle big enough to cut it without cutting to much off as it is just gorgeous! I so need to start getting involved in some of the challenges and I think that when Bret leaves will be the perfect time for me to do so. I love Crop Stop and have ordered from them a long while ago. I stopped looking because there was just to much crafty goodness in that store! lol Yes, that is some great customer service for sure, we need more to be like that. Hugs, Brenda

  25. Hi Mary,
I do hope you are keeping well.
Love your super Rudolf, and snippets cards.
They are both really fab,but I especially love the 2nd stamped one.
I don't know why I am drawn to the 2nd most as they are both equally as lovely.
Maybe it's my Catholic up bringing that makes me be drawn to that one.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.
