Happy July 4th!

Good Morning and to all my pals in the USA, HAPPY JULY 4th!  I only made one card, so here 'tis. I have added some lovely cards on the Cards by Friends page, so I hope you take time to look and  enjoy some inspiration by clicking on the links under each photo.

- Red paper is some old specialty paper from the stash. The swirl design of the paper shows on the right side by the white star. It's shiny & looks like it has waves in it if the light hits it in a certain way. Blue paper is textured Bazzill...also VOS.

- Paper Trey Ink die cut the swirl shapes.

- Gina Marie dies cut the stars, and a GM 4th of July stamp set was used for the sentiment.

- red, white & blue stars from stash as well.

Hello, and welcome.

Don't know about you, but when my Wink of Stella pens go dry, I had tried once to add a couple drops of water to extend the life. (Jennifer McGuire tip). Saw this Youtube video by France Martin (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XfO_BO6EVI) about adding some reinker, 70% alcohol to the barrel, and you can use the dried up WoS as an alcohol marker that has a bit of shimmer in it. So if you have time, check out the link to the video. I sure won't be tossing my WoS pens again.

Another 4th of July card, using a Whipper Snapper Image.. Pretty easy to color.

- Patriotic Owl  (the photo doesn't look great, but this colored up very nicely). Eyes have some SU Crystal Effects, WoS on the stars.

- Stitched Square die; edges sponged with DI Antique Linen and Tumbled Glass. Popped up on fun foam.

- red & blue snippets left from this card.

- dimensional sticker stars (VOS)

- ODBD sentiment (did not use the misti and SHOULD have, as this didn't stamp as dark as should have done).

Good afternoon, Shure Happy It's Friday! Welcome. 

First please help me welcome a new follower whom I expect is known to quite a few of you already.
Vicki of Stamp Smiles... I had been seeing Vicki around in Blogland at places I'd visit, but we didn't connect with each other. I'm happy to say, now we have!!! For those of you who don't already know Vicki's wonderful work, do yourself a favor, and hop on over right now. You're in for a big treat. Thanks for joining as a follower here, Vicki.

OK...the USA's next holiday will be our 4th of July so have just now started on trying to have a couple cards done. I love Whipper Snapper images...this one was fun & easy to color.

- Whipper Snapper CY813 - Uncle Sam ...colored with copics. Die cut with S/B circle, then mat with a S/B pinking circle.

- PTI Sentimental Splits die to cut red and blue; the red was popped up on pieces of fun foam. The blue frame has dimensional foam that I found in a $1 Store, and is long skinny strips.

- SU Sizziz stars EF on the red swirl, also on the white card base.

- Gina Marie All Seasons set for the sentiment. Versamark and Wow Red Glitz EP heat embossing.
- scattered some blue & silver sequins around. (Gina Marie is a new company to me, that I tried out after a recommendation from KT Fit Kitty. I'm pleased to say the shipping was timely, and there was even an extra little gift tucked in the package. This could have been due to a cardinal EF that I'd ordered, and it was out of stock...or it could just have been a thank you for the order. Either case, I was pleased with the customer service!!! The sentiment stamp set has lots of holiday sentiments for which I search. KT recommended the shop for reasonable die prices so I checked it out. Got some dies and this stamp set. So far, have been pleased with the dies used (in a project that will be posted tomorrow evening). Extremely pleased with the cost of the products and the time to ship. Just sayin'.

The good thing about this card, is that since both red & blue papers were die cut, there's snippets to create another card (if I get It in Gear to do so!).

DeeDee's Digis to Celebrate July 4th

Good evening, and to all my American friends, HAPPY JULY 4th!  Apologies for not having this card up last evening, but the downstairs printer would not connect to the Wi-Fi and print. We had a thunderstorm yesterday, so don't know if that affected anything. This morning, I checked plugs, all the other stuff you troubleshoot, then later in the afternoon, booted up, tried again...Voila, I'm connected to the Wi-Fi. Began to wonder if there is a limit on how many electronics we can connect to the network, with the 2 new Smart phones in mind.

You need a fast card? You wanna think DeeDee's Digis? Well, I certainly did. This is the first year, since I've been involved in this stamping/card making hobby, that no 4th of July cards were made & sent. However, DeeDee's Digis to the rescue with this really patriotic set...American Teddies. Absolutely nothing was done aside from printing the image, finding a die to cut the elements, hunting up some papers, and Done! I wanted to at least get a post up to commemorate the day that is so special for the United States of America.  So here goes:

 

 

- MFT Xstitched rectangle die to cut Betsy Ross Bear and the sentiment. (Psst...there's another cute bear in the set, along with some nice patriotic sentiments)

 

- MFT Stitched Fishtail banners

 

- patriotic colors of sequins and some BoBunny from an old 6x6 pack (perhaps last year's?) and some really VOS from the Paper Studio.

 

It doesn't get any easier (or faster!) to make a card than this. If you're ever in a situation where you need a cute image, that basically makes the card all by itself, do check out DeeDee's Digis. July 4th - Happy Birthday America

Hey again, and thanks for visiting today on my 2nd post. I expect you're getting sick of the 4th of July cards, but heck, that's what I was working on, so that's what I have to share just at the moment. This will be a scheduled post, as I hope by the time it goes live, I will be sitting out in the front porch swing, with a cool glass of something nice, watching the start of the local fireworks. Usually we have a nice display to enjoy from our porch and don't have to fight traffic to go anywhere.

Here's the next up card:

- image is House Mouse, pretty old, as it was purchased when we still had a local stamp store. Stamped with Memento Tuxedo black, colored with copics, spica pens, a bit of WoS;  used a gold Koh-I-Noor pencil over the ends of the brushes (is that called the ferrule?) - then a yellow spica for shine, came back with clear WoS for _more_ shine.

- Lil Inker stitched die for the main image.

- Lil Inker Cover up die Stitches & Stripes on the red background. Did not use a lot of pressure with this die to get more of an embossed design rather than have it 'cut through'.

- Lil Inker stitched banner die traced & extended to fit the computer generated sentiment, so it's minus the stitching.

Edit: a sweet blogger just let me know that the House Mouse card was eligible over at the House Mouse & Friends Monday Challenge Anything Goes #HMFMC173, so this card will be linked there.

Here's one more 4th of July card:

This one has another  DeeDee's Stitchy Stars along with some patriotic themed papers from a BoBunny 6x6 pack - (NBUS from last year?). Gold Krylon on the star edges,  Glossy Accents on the heart trim, tiny button on the quilt square - popped it up on foam.

- Border edges from an MS border punch, with some red checked ribbon from stash.

- filigree shape at the bottom and under the star is a new Creative Expressions by Sue Wilson, Valencia from the Spanish Collection (CED1204)- Die #2. The shape is quite large; snipped it in half, put half over the red stripe at the bottom. Have been seeing a lot of the international bloggers using these gorgeous dies, but just now finding them available here in the USA. (That could just be where I'm looking!)

Ellen Hutson is having a 20% sale for the 4th of July - starting today, and has some of the Sue Wilson dies in stock (and some coming soon). Betcha can't guess what I ordered, can ya, can ya???! I was BADDDD!

 

 

Had to go back to check that this card was not previously shared.

 

- Image is Art Gone Wild, copic coloring. White gel pen on the stars, then WoS for shine. Edges sponged with DI Antique Linen, again lightly with Tea Dye.

 

- star shaped buttons from stash (ha! remembered I had these - then had to find them).

 

- Lil Inker stitched die banner traced and extended to fit the computer generated sentiment. Same DI colors to tone down the white.

 

- Red textured Bazzill card front - corners from a Sue Wilson Die, either Valencia or Cordoba.

 

Whew, I think that's the last of the 4th of July cards. Now I can start working on birthday cards, and give a thought to autumn and Halloween!

Miscellaneous Project & Happy Birthday

Good evening. Today has been a housework day, and when I finish this post, then I'm off to do some visiting. I wanted to share a little project that's been in the works - and since I normally don't do "projects" - this is a bit of a departure from me. This is a vase done with paint and alcohol inks.

 

 

This vase was purchased as a pair colored graphite black. I liked the shape of the vase. So....got sprayed with  bright gold paint. Used alcohol inks in the red shades, to dab red pretty much on all surfaces. Liked the way it turned out. (daughter still has hers black). The vases lived in red & gold sitting in our basement tv room for some years. There's a lot of red pillows & such like in that room because it's rather dark. The red is cheery.

 

While we've been cleaning & decluttering, I removed some 'stuff' from the hearth in our living room/den on the main floor. The white fireplace in that room has smokey blue slate tiles surrounding the opening and covering the hearth. Decided we'd spray one of the vases a hammered silver, use some blue alcohol inks to dab around to dull up the silver. I'm not sure this is the final blue the vase will stay. I'm debating whether to pour a little blue Dylusions ink into a shallow pan, use the dabber felt to darken the blue even more.

While I was taking photos this evening, I bumped into the blue vase and broke a bit off one of the little curly-ques. Think it can be glued back, but if not, it's turned toward the back and nobody but Moi will know it's broken. Thought I'd live with this shade of blue for a few days before deciding to try the Dylusions. I don't know if that ink will work on metals...will have to do some research.

OK...now for yet one more 4th of July card:

 

 

For my international visitors, sorry for all the grunch of 4th of July holiday cards. Did a bunch, got them mailed today (LATE!) so I'll share over the next few days. This one was easy: old pattern paper from stash - stars die cut with a Creatopia star die (think S/Binders makes that, not sure). Everything on this card is bits & pieces (ah, snippets!) and it was the last of the cards that I finished ..Whew!

 

Also added a pretty 4th of July card this evening to the Friends' Cards page too,  if you've time to look.

 

Last, but definitely not least: today was Our Darnell's birthday, so I hope you will take a moment to pop in & wish her a wonderful day. She has a nice graphic on her sidebar - but guess who just now saw it????It has her birthdate and asks "when is yours?". I think that's a great idea, so that those of us who 'know each other' can send some love & good wishes. Darnell is so talented - her blog is always one that makes you smile. She inspired me with the idea to provide links to new followers - except I don't know how to add the pictures! Heck I'm doing good to get the links done properly! I've borrowed lots of other good ideas from Our Darnell, and plan to keep on! (as long as she'll allow it).  And she's always willing to help out with the technical problems. A real Blog Angel!

More DeeDee's Digi's 4th of July

Hello and welcome to 2 new followers:

Leslie G of Leslie's Craft Room and Zella - for whom I can't find a link so perhaps Zella doesn't have a blog. Zella if you do, please provide me with a link so I can give a shout out with your blog address. Thank you both for joining here as followers. It's always so exciting to see new faces in the following list. Watch out for a surprise the day I see that 250th face/name show up!

Again, I'm using some of DeeDee's Digis 4th of July Designs - this one is from the Hat's Off digi collection.

 



- Precolored Digi was hand cut, did a minimum amount of shading with copics. Separated the Uncle Sam top hat from the drawn digi and reattached with a narrow white ribbon.

- Embossed & stenciled background was a snippet from another project - the front didn't turn out as I wished. Decided I could use a MBox stencil and some blue spray and still use the piece as a background. Die cut an oval, placed a snippet of the stripe digi papers from the Stitchy Stars set behind this cut out oval. Used the Lil Inkers ovals to cut a frame, adhered the frame over the striped paper. Mr. Eagle has some dimensional foam tape adhering  him in place and the sentiment from Hat's Off was cut with deckle scissors so it would fit in the space.

- punched 2 stars from silver glitter paper and covered with Smooch paints (the kind that looks like tiny fingernail polish bottles. A NBUS for me. Have had the stuff, seldom think to use it.). Used some sponges that had red & blue residual Distress ink that were in the drawer. (?another snippet?)

DeeDee's Digis Says Happy 4th of July

Hi, and welcome. We're taking a short break in between cleaning out some attic stuff that the DD may want. It gets too warm up there for me, and stomachs were growling. DH & DD have gone to get some lunch. We had another little washing machine upset this morning, which didn't start our day off pleasantly. There's this trap  'thing-y' on our LG washer that is to be emptied periodically. It catches debris and sometimes has a bit of standing water. DH cleans it from time to time. You will remember my fiasco with this apparatus last year, and it caused the tub of machine water to leak all over the floor, down into our basement floor insulation and ceiling tiles...BIG MESS! Anyway, started a laundry load, had my coffee in hand and happened to walk into the kitchen to start the dish washer. I keep a rug by the machines and thought "hmm, wonder why that rug looks funny colored?" (it was wet!) and quick as a flash, "Uh-OH - it's leaked again"-- remembering that DH had cleaned the trap out Sunday evening for me. First time I've done laundry since then. Evidently something didn't get tightened properly. Oh my, he was not a happy camper at all. We've called somebody to come in and probably replace the wet insulation between the floors, as DH dried it with fans last time. Don't want to take a chance on mildew, etc this time. Plus 6 stained ceiling tiles. Anyway, at least the daughter is here to brighten & lighten his mood! Thanks for letting me whine, and on to the card...

Since I need to have some holiday cards, I chose a combination of 2 sets for today's card: Stitchy Stars and Hat's Off.  Stitchy Stars has some 'country stars' designs, some pretty digi papers, line images & sentiments; I liked the sentiment from Hat's Off  for this card however. Printed out both sets, and selected the elements that I wanted for today's card. Am surely loving this digi paper stuff - YAY! The remaining designs that were printed out are just waiting for another 4th of July card.

 

 

- Star & striped paper from Stitchy Stars . The Hat's Off sentiment was die cut with a sizzix die, and outlined with a red Wink of Luna pen. The blue paper at the top is Bazzill smooth, embossed with a Crafts Concept Solid Stars EF. Went over the raised stars with a clear WoS pen*, and then outlined with a white gel pen.

 *Edit: This should have read WHITE WoS.

 

- Glitter stars done with a small Marvy punch, and the tiny kraft heart is a snippet from the bird house die you saw on an earlier card. Added the red rhinestone just for giggles. Another very easy card & fast.

PS: I had mentioned in emails to several of you, that I'd share a picture of the printer paper that I've been using with the digi papers, that I like so much. I think I paid about $3.97 or $4.97 for this pack in Walmart. It seems to yield a much better result than the plain ole printer paper that I always use for printing. Hope this helps anyone who might be interested.

 

Birthday, July 4th

Hi there, and as promised, I'm back to share some lovely cards that were in the mail when we arrived back home. (well, I said I'd post yesterday afternoon, but it didn't work out that way). So without further palaver, here's the cards. I was so thrilled to receive these.

A delightful card from my talented friend, Gloria (who has a Silhouette, and I bet she made some of the elements on this card with the Silhouette). Isn't it adorable? The inside is also cute as well.

Another beauty from my also very talented blog buddy, Brenda...who is a Cricut guru. The inside is just as pretty as the outside....
My sweet niece Julie, sent us this 4th of July card. Alas, I only sent one out this year, and it was to our daughter.

The inside of Julie's card was also decorated. I should have taken pics of the interiors as well, but I'm still trying to get laundry done, so just photo'd the front view. I (we) are so lucky to have such talented folks who think enough of us, to spend their time making a special card. That makes me feel so blessed. Thank you to all of you! We loved each one of 'em, and what a treat to open after a long trip. Sure was much nicer than all the bills waiting on us!

The reason the laundry project is taking so long, is that we've had a lot of rain in our area. We have a septic tank, drain fields...so I'm trying to not cause a problem with running too much extra water into the system, since I know the ground is so saturated. Our area has not had any flooding, but according to the news, there's been some flooding in surrounding communities.

Thanks for joining me today, and hopefully I can get a card of my own ready to share pretty soon. I'm a slow unpacker. I'll also try to take some pictures of the goodies I brought home, when I can get that stuff unpacked.

July 4th

Good evening, and Happy 4th of July to all my USA friends! I hope you had a grand day to celebrate. It was blooming hot here in Beantown. Our picnic was outside, think it was 94, and though we had lots of shade, it was HOT! But good food, good friends made for a most enjoyable day. We came home, watched the Boston Pops on television. It was so lovely to get back in cool air conditioning, and I got a very cool shower which was refreshing!

Our daughter called, said it is raining in Tampa, Fla. I'm reading email that it is raining in our hometown in SC. We could have used a few clouds this afternoon, but we had bright golden sunshine, blue skies, and an occasional breeze.

Tomorrow we plan to go to Deerfield, Mass, which is an old historic town, that has been restored. We visited  there - lo these many many years ago. We both enjoy that type of thing. Not sure who in the family will go with us, if any.

Took a few pictures at the picnic, mostly of people, but our hosts did have some lovely flowers about, so I'll see how they turn out. I'm seeing the color combo of golden yellow lilies planted with vivid pink petunias a lot up here. Really very striking. If anything turned out halfway decent, I'll share a few of the gardens.

So have a restful evening, and thanks so much for popping by, and I hope your day was fun, relaxing, safe, whatever you needed the celebration to be. We were remembering what it is all about, makes you stop and think what our forebears sacrificed so that we had such a day to celebrate. Hugs, and come again when you have time.

July 4th

Good afternoon, and Welcome. So happy you were able to pop in today. We did our hospital run fairly early, and thankfully, my brother was released this morning. We were planning to take a trip up to Boston, leaving today, but that is on hold just at the moment...day by day...waiting to see how things go.

I'm posting a 4th of July card today...nothing elaborate.

The stars were made with a new MS punch that is supposed to do 3 different cuts. I'm not altogether happy with it. It does the main star ok, but then I have to fiddle with it, to get the more intricate cut, and I've yet to discover what the '3rd punch' is! The white overlay is the more detailed punchout. There's a lever on the handle that moves to change the cut of the punch. I read the instructions, moved it different places, and sometimes I'd get the overlay, sometimes, just another plain star! The smaller stars inside were made with different punches that I have. The sentiment was from a sticker pack, and I just cut mats for it with the scissors. The red star on the sentiment was white, covered in MS red glitter glue. The pattern paper is years old -  from the stash. Need to make an insert, and it's ready for mailing.

Have a wonderful afternoon. It's very hot & humid in Upstate SC at the moment. I watered some potted plants on the porches earlier, and it's difficult to breathe it's so hot. So thankful for air conditioning. Hugs and thanks again for joining me. Stay cool.

July 4th

Happy Friday Afternoon. Did you see me doing the Happy Dance? I went over to visit Stamping with Loll ( a wonderful place to visit...& I urge you to check this lovely site out, because you will see some fantastic work. Plus she has a section for techniques & tutorials as well). I had left a comment on a day when Loll was giving away some candy...and I saw my name! WHOO HOO! And it was one of our busy days that we've had here lately, so I had just sneaked a moment to blog surf. Boy, I'm glad I did, or I'd have missed that. Actually I was looking at a later post, which had a brayered vellum card, and just happened to scroll on down to see an earlier post. Talk about an angel on your shoulder!!! Thank you Miss Loll, and I will do my best to use the lovely candy on something worthy of it!!!

OK..here's my card for today:

Showed it to DH as I always do, and he didn't like it. The American Flag starts with a red stripe and ends with a red stripe. My idea for this was sparked by the starred blue paper - which had been a snippet that I put in a box when I was picking up mess supplies in the room, so that the tv installers would have a space to work. Hmm...already had a white card base, so scrounged around in the box & found another small red piece (snippet) that would work for the stripes. A square punch shaped the corner field of stars. I sliced strips of the red to fit the cardbase; no measuring so as to start & end with a red...actually I wasn't even thinking about it. (I had to be downstairs with the installers, and didn't want to appear to be hanging over their shoulders. So I busied myself at my craft desk). The colors were too bright, so I sponged some DI Antique Linen & Faded Jeans around the corners & edges). Still brighter than the worn look I wanted, so I airbrushed some Copic E53 over the red & white. The computer generated sentiment was diecut with a S/binder shape, with more DI Blue Jeans sponged while in the die. Added Viva Décor red pearls, 'cause I can't find my red, white & blue stars that I bought just to do this holiday! I explained to DH "It's just a card. I'm not being disrespectful to our Flag". He's a veteran, and he's still not too sure I ought to send this card to anyone. Oh well, win some, lose some. Ya'll have a nice day! Hugs 

July 4th

HAPPY JULY 4TH!!!!

Hello Bloggers and hope you are having a wonderful day celebrating with your loved ones. It's a day to be proud of our country, reflect on the freedoms we enjoy, and remember all of those who fought to earn those freedoms for us. This is the only 4th of July card that I made (and it  is for DH). Cardbase is white, strips of Vintage Nation design papers by Paper Studio were cut to fit the cardbase, then trimmed into a V shape, using a square punch. Added Red, White & Blue stars at the bottom as some bling. The focal image is Lady Liberty, by Art Impressions. I realized I have very few patriotic stamps, so I'll have to be on the lookout for some items to add to my collection. Lady Liberty was stamped with Momento's new Grey Flannel ink, then sponged with Distress Ink Faded Jeans. Used scissors to cut it out, popped up from the card surface. It was a fast card as I decided at the last minute (about midnight last evening!) that I really 'should' make a card for Hubby. The inside has an eagle stamped along with a flag, with the sentiment Happy 4th of July. I used some of the stars stripe to edge both sides of the insert. Be safe and enjoy the day. July 4th

Candee's Card - side 1

 Hello again. I have another card to share that I received today from another very talented "blog buddy", Miss Candee of http://cardcornerbycandee.blogspot.com/.   I think this is what is called a spinner card. The circle image is two sided, with a string inserted in the middle. It is placed in a circular cutout, so that when the card is opened, another image appears. Neat! And I've never done a card like this. Candee always has the neatest techniques to try...and she explains the details so clearly, even an amateur can try it. I included both sides of what we saw when we opened her beautiful card. Needless to say, we were so happy to receive it in the mail today. Bad me, cuz I haven't made any 4th of July cards, but Miss Candee is very organized and on top of everything. (By the way, in case you can't see in the picture, this side of the image with the star-flag motif has been embossed at the outer edge).

July 4th

We usually travel to New England during the last part of June to attend a July 4th celebration held by very good friends. We received our invitation last week. We can't go this year, so wanted to send our RSVP in the same type of theme. I used the Tim Holtz embossing folder on kraft cardstock. Then used Distress Inks Barn Red and Faded Jeans to highlight the embossing. No white in Distress Ink, so I found a nice Colorbox white pigment for the center stripe. Used Distress stickles in Diamond to highlight some of the letters on the embossing. This was a fast card, and I may use this same design to make some more Operation Write Home cards for the effort in which our Thursday stamp group is participating.
