Penny Black The Garden - Birthday

Good afternoon and this is another scheduled post. Trying to get a couple posts ahead, and keep up with the comments that I'm so blessed to receive, and get back over to _your_ blogs and gather up some wonderful inspiration.

NOTE: To answer some questions received regarding Blog candy: The  winner will be any follower that is in the Google Friend Connect at the top of the blog, in the USA or  otherwise. So to be eligible, be sure you are in that list, so that I can find you, have your name listed in my followers spreadsheet - not just following via Bloglovin. It is not necessary that the winner have a blog.  I would ask that if you should become a follower, I hope it will be that you will like to visit when you can and not just to win the goodies. Thanks!

There's a special birthday coming up at our house, and I'm trying to work on another card. BUT...if I don't get it finished, or if it's a real wart, I think this one will work. I did this effort after seeing a Julie Ebersole Hello Monday video and liking the results.

- Penny Black The Garden die cut from watercolor paper, using the Sizzix Precision Plate (couple of passes and the bits came out fairly well. This one is _very_ intricate). With the Precision Plate, I did not have to say any unkind or unpleasant words when removing the bits...oh Happy Day.

- DI paints (a NBUS..I've collected the colors of the months and never used the first paint or stain!). Used blues & Citrus Green - trying to leave some white space. This does NOT show up nicely in the photo, but looks quite pretty IRL.

- Wood grain embossed white background under the overlay (doesn't show in the photo either, and not all that great IRL, could just as easily have skipped this step).

- MBox - painted happy die - 4 layers - cut from a snippet of same cardstock which made the base of the side fold card. Added glossy accents to the piece after adhering to the card.
(Fun Birthday Sentiments - separated the clear stamps to use part of the sentiment) Birthday stamped in black on a snippet of green dp that complimented the Citrus Green, angled one edge, and called 'er done.

What do you think? Is this too frou-frou for a guy card? It may have to serve as one, if I don't get the 'fer real' one done in time! Our family has lots of birthdays coming up soon, so it will go to SOMEbody in the family :-).

Thanks for visiting today, and ya'll come back. Hugs.

  1. This is extremely pretty Mary with that PB intricate die as the background and love the greens and blues you have used and the 'happy' matches beautifully and you have not overdone the embellishments so I think it would work well for a man. x

  2. Beautiful card, Mary! I'm no good enougth to make male cards, but in my opinion this isn't too much frou-frou for a guy: the colours are bright but not too much sweet and in my mind green and blue are masculine colours :)
Your diecut is really very intricate! Love it and the blended colours you used. I can see the woodgrain embossing on the left top corner, and I like it! It's very pretty under the diecut!
Great idea layering the sentiment, and with the glossy accents it pop out so well!
I think that the recipient will love your card!

  5. I think this might work for a guy Mary. I like your greens and blues and I actually do see a bit of the woodgrain embossing. When I enlarge the photo I see it top left corner but not a lot of it. I think you are right you could have skipped that step :-)
But your card is very beautiful, love it.

  6. It is an absolutely stunning card Mary and I think it would work perfectly for a man. The Spellbinder's die is gorgeous! So pleased that you used your DI's, I really love their fluidity!.

Just to answer your question from earlier, I have only ever used the Structurizer and/or Powertex. I think that the Powertex may be available in the US but I cannot be certain. It is very, very messy but lots of fun!

  9. This is one amazing birthday card with all of the colors and design you put into it! Is it too frou-frou for a man? I'd say perhaps, but any man who receives this should appreciate all the work that went into it - frills or not!

  14. Beautiful choice of colors, Mary! That die is gorgeous, but I was worried it might be too time consuming to work with. I think your card could be for a guy or a girl.

  15. Such wonderful use of the very intricate die cut Mary and your choice of colouring really brings it to life, a colour palette I might add that I always like/ My Gran always said "blue and green should never be seen" but I beg to disagree as I always think the two colours compliment each other perfectly.

  26. Love the beautiful bg you created with the die cut and the DI paints, Mary!!! The colours are really lovely and totally suitable for a man, but I think with all the flowers I would rather give this one to a woman!!! Love how you've kept the sentiment small and simple to not distract from the lovely bg!!!!! Beautiful, Mary, and whoever is going to receive it, is going to love it!!!
    Have a great day!!!

  42. That is one awesome die you got there! Great idea to color it the way you did too.
Flowers aren't for women only if you ask me, as long as they're stamped or die cut like this I think flowers work for males. But having looked at your newer posts already, you're definitely safe with the vibrant car card. This will come in handy for some other time.
