September 2018 Twofer Challenge Cards

Good afternoon, and so far, all is well in our area of Upstate South Carolina. Prayers going out for those Carolinians, Georgians and Virginians, who got so much attention from Florence. Thankfully our area has been spared. We've had hot sunny days, no rain. Yesterday we did have a bit of breeze, but definitely couldn't call it wind. Today it's overcast and perhaps the breeze might be a little stronger, but nothing to fret about. We did spend one evening picking up some of the little yard decorations about the place, brought in the bird feeders. Anything we thought could be a projectile to damage a neighbor's property in case of strong winds got taken up.

The September 2fer Challenge word is Leaves. So here goes:

MFT leaf set (an oldie and no matching dies) inked and stamped to create a background. First effort I tried using some old Kaleidescope pads that were in the pretty fall colors. As you know, when closed, those multi-pads in those, have a little 'pull' to keep them apart so they don't bleed together. When using the Misti to try to ink a couple of times, I discovered that 'pull' feature was awkward, so my first try wasn't all that great. (I used that one to cut 2 layers for the hang in there). Got the Hero arts Ombre pads and those worked better. This MFT set has the 'solid' leaf and then has a 'vein' image. Having the Misti surely helped to get even inking impressions on this background. When it was all stamped, used a gold spray - from way high up - to add a little gold dusting.

Same MFT set, stamped, and fussy cut each leaf. Used Altenew Rose Gold EP on the aspen leaf; a Ranger gold on the oak leaf, then re-versamarked it, dribbled some Ranger Copper over that.  On the maple, used the Rose gold, the copper and added in some WOW red. Used a tiny spoon to try to get the EP where I wanted it, then used the heat tool. I rather liked how this turned out. Background is a watercolor wash using the new Altenew watercolor set that was featured recently. Used a Darice Fall leaf EF and cut off the bottom portion so that I could stamp the Altenew sentiment in red. (Actually the way I had placed the c/stock in the folder, that fall was backwards on the blue side of the c/s. Another good reason to cut it off! The 4 leaf patterns in the square are debossed, but I think it looks ok anyway!)
Tied some twine in a bow, and called 'er done.

Now recently I shared a card with a PBlack berry image watercolored. The first try was using a 140# watercolor c/s, and I just didn't like the texture. I finally got around to snapping a photo...what do you think?
And if you have time, check out the Cards by Friends tab at the top to see an absolutely stunning card we received from the talented Miss Bonnie. When I showed it to DH, he asked "Did she _paint_ this?"  My reply was "of COURSE she did". We are so blessed to have lovely friends who brighten our lives with sharing their wonderful card making talents with us.

One other little tidbit to share: Got this package in the mail today:

Look at the tiny bottle of Lindy's compared to that huge box filled with packing paper. No wonder the postage rates are so ridiculous. This tiny bottle could have been put in a small mailer envelope and probably shipped for a $1.00!

Hope you'll find time to join in with Darnell's September Twofer Challenge #9. All of us are needing some Fall leaves cards!!!

Thanks for joining me this afternoon, and many grateful thanks to so many of you who emailed us to check that we were safe. It warms my heart to realize so many folks that I've not met, probably never will get the chance to meet IRL, were concerned enough to email. Fortunately our area has been lucky that we've not gotten extreme weather in the years we've lived here (16 now). I hope any of you who were in Flo's path, are safe, and that your families and friends are also.

God Bless.

  1. Firstly so glad you are safe...I was thinking of you x.
Glorious leaf cards, both of them. Love the colours on the first, the layout and the hidden message die cut. The spray of gold looks fabulous too x. Wow...on the second. Love the colours of the embossing powders on the leaves and the pop of red is wonderful. Yes I know what you mean about the pull on the kaleidoscope colours, this would make it tricky to use with the misti.
The berry card looks amazing Mary and absolutely stunning....CAS perfection x.

Now that's one big box for one small lindy powders!!

  5. It's wonderful to know that you are high and dry and I hope in the coming days you remain that way, Mary! First of all (cuz I'll forget), I've gotten packages like that and it just infuriates me. So stupid! Also, I love the berry card! I forgot to check Bonnie's card before I opened the comment box, but I'll do it after. Her painting talent has just gone from strength to strength over the years!

On to your Twofer cards, I think they are both wonderful for fall! You did a great job on the coloring for your Hang in There design and I, too, like how your multi-powder embossing turned out on your fussy-cut second leaf design! Love the e/f you used, too!! Thank you so much for playing in Twofer Card Challenge #9! Hugs, Darnell

  6. Glad to read that you haven't been affected by the hurricane, but thoughts are with all those caught up in the dreadful effects of Florence.
Two super cards for the Twofer Challenge, so very different. Love the PB berry card too. xx

  7. Love all your fall leaves, Mary! They are so colorful! I love how you've scattered them about on the first card and your leaf "bouquet" on the second card! Great way to use the leaves!

If you saw how I did that card, you wouldn't be impressed at all. It was kind of a stamp and splat, splat, splat! Glad you like it though.

  9. So pleased Florence has passed you by Mary, and from what I have seen of the weather on line was hoping all would be OK. Areas on and near the coast have not done so well though. Two beautiful leaf cards for the Twofer Challenge and the stamped leaves are so realistic with such lovely colours and love the piece you have used for the sentiment on the first, and then the bunch of leaves look great on that pretty blue embossed background, and love that open script for the red sentiment on the second. The berries have turned out really well and TFS us Mary. I love that card that Bonnie has sent you two. x

  10. Beautiful leaf cards Mary! Love the different colours of the leaves on your first card. The spraying of gold from up high adds a lovely light coating of gold splatters. Gorgeous! And so cool how the works worked with your die-cut sentiment.

Your second card is so pretty with the layered leaves. Great job getting all the different colours of embossing powders on the leaves. Looks amazing. Thanks for playing along with us at Twofer Card Challenge! Glad you are doing well and that Florence hasn't caused you any grief so far. Praying that it stays that way for you. Love, Loll

  16. Wow, what beautiful twofers Momma Mary! I am loving the leaves you used and love the colorful inking you got on them. They are so real looking! Love how you did your sentiment on first card. Clever and fun! Your second card is equally beautiful. Those leaves, I am just loving those leaves! They looks so beautiful on that pretty blue background, like they are fluttering down from the tree against the sky. Gorgeous! Perfect for a fall birthday. I am loving your watercolor berry card!!! It is so beautiful and I love the simplistic design and I can just feel the chill of the air in that card, the white background looks like it is in deep snow. lol So beautiful! I don't get it, I get things in the mail like that too. A huge box with one tiny item in it. But yet the PO claims they are losing money, I really don't see how when everyone is buying online so much. Oh well, another soapbox for another day. Hugs, Brenda

  19. Your twofer leafy cards are wonderful with so much added color and beautiful designs too! I love how you mixed the color on the first, and the beautiful blue background on the 2nd is like the sky in fall. Beautiful and soft blue! I'm cracking up laughing at the shipping box for one tiny item! I got a couple ink carts from Epson that would have nicely fit into a mailer but the box was packed with all this air-filled plastic that we popped and recycled along with our plastic shopping bags. It makes no sense to me either, seriously!

  22. So pleased to read that you are safe and so may you continue to be.
I love your leaf cards, the first one just reminds me of being out in a wind with all the leaves flying around, so atmospheric.
I love the berry card too - it looks wonderful the way you did it.

  23. I hope you all everyone are still safe from the effects of the hurricane. Must be a very scary time, especially for those along the coast! Your first leafy card is so pretty! I've always been a fan of the camouflage look on a card, and you've given it a twist! Very cool, and those leaves are so beautifully inked! Your second card has tons of dimension, and I do like that embossed base behind those gorgeous heat embossed leaves. Thank you so much for joining us at the Twofer Challenge. Bev

  24. Your twofer leaves cards are beautiful in their glorious autumnal colors, Mary, and your amazing cherry/berry creation is GORGEOUS! I love all three creations and think your styles are lovely. I, too, have been reaching outside my box, trying to do new things with my stash, and new techniques these old fingers have trouble grasping, but it is SO FUN, isn't it? Wishing you a fantastic week! hugs, de

  25. Hi Mary, I love your wonderful card, the leaves are fabulous and such gorgeous colours. When I buy stampin up products the boxes are always too big for what is in them, and the postage is so expensive to, but the box is filled with plastic packaging too, which I thought we were trying to cut out now, Kate x
