Bernie...a Lovely Blogger Friend...

Good afternoon. Today will be a tribute goodbye to one of my very first blogger friends, Bernie of Bernie's Craft Closet.  Bernie was so encouraging to me when I first started a blog, and persisted in coaxing me along to submit a card at Pixie's Crafty Workshop (aka The Snippets Playground). With Bernie's gentle persuasion, I finally took courage in hand, submitted a card, and made an utter mess of linking. (Miss Pixie sent me very detailed instructions, which I thought I had followed, but still screwed it up several times, with Miss having to get me sorted). Finally, as they say "the Penny Dropped".Not only did I get to meet another very sweet & generous person in Diane - (Miss Pixie of the Playground), but what fun I've had since then, what lovely folks I've met & what inspiration I've seen. So Big Thanks due to Bernie for that.

Bernie developed a very serious illness later, but continued to post updates for a time.  We would email back & forth, then suddenly...none of the bloggers who 'knew' Bernie, were hearing anything. We worried that she had become just too sick to be on the computer. This morning, Diane (Miss)  shared an email that she'd received from Bernie's sister. Miss was very clever to sift back through some of Bernie's old emails to her,  and contacted some folks she thought were relatives. Bernie's sister replied to that email. We learned that we lost our lovely Bernie nearly a year ago.

Here's a link to a lovely card that Bernie had sent me. I was so totally blown away at the beauty & design of this card, not to mention the time it took Bernie to make it just for me. It made me feel very special. Bernie was indeed - a very special person herself, and I've missed her posts, her emails, and just her way of making someone she would never meet in person, feel like I mattered to her.

So this is me saying: Goodbye Bernie. Rest in Peace, and I know that someday, we WILL meet.
Thanks for visiting and listening. I was very Blessed to get to know such an outstanding person.

Busy in the background, dragging out some Christmas decorations for outside. Did some yard work yesterday afternoon, since it was such a beautifully pleasant day. My back & I were NOT friends last night. Also it was windy & someone in the neighborhood was burning, so rather expected to get my usual allergy problems. Thankfully I'm ok today, for which I said a big Thank you. Trying to do some sorting in the stamp area too.

Hope that you're having a good afternoon wherever you are. I treasure all of you who visit here. Big hugs, and will try to get back soon with a card. God Bless.

  7. So sorry to read this news about Bernie. I got to know Bernie through her blog, learned of her illness with sadness, followed her fight and missed her when she stopped posting, guessing that the inevitable had happened. She will, however, continue to live on in our memories and that is good. Hugs, Elizabeth xx

  8. Big hugs, Mary. You and I shared many emails of concern about our beloved Bernie. It's hard to finally hear the truth of what we have suspected this whole time. She was a good friend and she will be missed always. You wrote a lovely tribute to her and I thank you for that! Mwah! Darnell

  23. A lovely tribute to your friend Mary. It's amazing the people we meet on-line and the connections we make. This is the positive side of the internet and a big part of the crafting community of card makers. You were so blessed to call Bernie your friend and I'm sure she felt the same way about you. I looked at the special card she made for you and you can see the love the patience that went into making that work-of-art just for you. Loll xx

  24. How lovely to remember a friend in this way, as others have said a beautiful tribute.
How lovely that Bernie's sister replied so that the word could spread of her passing.

  25. I just found this out when I visited Diane Momma Mary, I was shocked and saddened to hear this news. You know I didn't get to know Bernie well as she was already dealing with her illness, but I did pop over and wish her well and prayed for her. She seemed like a very lovely person both inside and out. I have always been told that God only hand picks his roses for his rose garden and Bernie sure was a rose!

You are doing better than me, no Christmas decorations have come down yet, we will probably wait for Bret to get home to help it all down from the garage attic. You make sure and rest that back of yours now, and thank God that you didn't get a full blown attack from the burning!! Hugs, Brenda
