Santa Hedgies for Rudy Day

Good evening, and welcome. It's time for the October Rudolph Day Challenge, and next month will be the last one for 2018. In case you don't know about this challenge, it is a Christmas Anything Goes themed challenge, which opens on the 25th of each month, and closes on the last day of that month. Our hostess, Maureen always has some nice prizes, and it's just a fun and fairly easy rules challenge...just do something related to Christmas. 

Here's my entry for October....I've managed to join in each month of 2018 (I _think_!)

CZ Design die sentiment

Hedgies colored with copics; Polar White Flowersoft for the fur and used a quickie glue pen over the string of stars. Then dumped some Brutus Monroe Gilded Gold over the wet glue. The glue pen allowed the EP to adhere fairly well, so IRL the stars have a nice glimmer. A silver slicci pentel pen helped the scissors to look metallic.

the snow was created by using a rather dried up snow writer (it wouldn't come out of the end so used an embossing paste spreader to put some on the card; then used my finger to spread it). Then dumped on some glitter while this was wet.

I sprayed a fixative over the flowersoft to keep it from falling off (hopefully) and the wet 'snow paste' held the glitter as it dried.

3 layers of snippets made up the sentiment. A red snippet in the middle, with 2 white snippet layers colored with copics. A business card was handy, so used the white back and sandwiched the red snippet between. The thickness of the business card gave a nice dimension. Nuvo Crystal glaze applied, once the layers were put together. Laid this on the kraft non-stick mat, as I applied the Glaze. This way when it blobbed over, as it does sometimes, it was not on the card, leaving a splodge that the camera picks up.

Christmas Card Club Challenge #3 - Angels

Welcome to #3 Christmas Card Club Challenge for 2018. This week's challenge theme is Angels or Fairies, chosen by Granmargaret.  I found a cute NBUS Inky Antic clear set that seemed to fit the bill. Did the first card, and was not real happy with how it turned out. I used a S/B die that I tried to shorten to fit the size of card that I generally make, and then wasn't thrilled with the color that the heat embossing powder turned out to be.

First however, please help me welcome a new follower: Sheryl, of I Am. I found Sheryl's blog when she was introduced by Maxine (Kiwime's Kreations) and popped over to say hello. Met Sheryl and now I, too,  have a new friend. If you have time, do please go over to say Hi to Sheryl, and enjoy what she is sharing. Isn't fun how we can meet new friends like this????

- S/B Flourished Frame cut the rounded center motif and the rectangle that fits around it. Edged the image with Wow embossing ink, then heat embossed with Ranger Queen's Gold. Used a White Pearl EP on the outer rectangle. To get a sheen on the angels' wings, I used a tiny brush coated with White Opal Liquid Pearls mixed with Stickles Star Dust, and that turned out with a nice sparkle. 

- Next mat layer is S/B Cascading Grace, which was much too large for the card base. Split the center portion out, joined with 1/8" double side adhesive. It doesn't meet just perfectly & that disappointed me.  Heat embossed with NBUS Altenew Peach EP, since I wanted to use the starry background DP. I'm not sure what made me think this peach color would look more like rose gold that would work with the dp. It's ok, but doesn't really float my boat. Used a gold braid ribbon, not thinking this would be too thick under the image and sentiment. Additionally it has a tendency to fray. Had tried another gold ribbon to hide the split in the mat, but it looked wimpy. Thought about this overnight, decided to have another try.

Die cut the image - liked the coloring better in this card - with another die shape ( can't remember now which one it was!) Used a red Copic Spica pen to color the candles, orange for the flame.  Edged this die shape with embossing ink, then Altenew Platinum EP. Really liking this EP. Gold mat under this layer is S/B Gold Label #4. Covered cardstock with a sheet of double stick adhesive, then die cut. Embossed using the rubber pad; peeled off the top layer of the adhesive; sprinkled well with Ritz Glitter in a gold color. Burnished, but think some of the embossed areas around the outer edge might show in the photo.

Another S/B die for the bottom mat, did the same double stick adhesive gig, and sprinkled Cool White Glitter Ritz. This card looks much better IRL, than my photos show. Asked DH which he liked best, but he wouldn't commit. I like #2 better.

4 layers of white snippets cut with a MBox word die, layered , then heat embossed with Queen's Gold. The photo shows some white in the layers, so think a gold pen will fix this. The bottom edges of the word have Darice dimension strips tucked underneath, since the top part is resting on the die layers. So which do you like best?

Oval Cornucopia

 

Good morning - wake up to a scheduled post. We have a very early dermatology appointment (Mr made it, I didn't!) so back here sharing another of the Fall/Thanksgiving cards I've been trying to get finished.

 

 

- Sweet & Sassy clear image stamped & colored with copics, some WoS, white gel pen. Got a smudge by the leaves around the right, bottom pumpkin. The clear set has an extra leaf, so stamped a few, colored & fussy cut out to add over the boo-boo. Think it got hidden pretty well! Die cut with the S/B beaded oval. Used another oval die that would fit the shape to cut teh coral mat (this may have been a faux mat, where the outside was traced and fussy cut...)

 

- background started as kraft c/s that was left from another project. Taped TH Mesh stencil (a gift from a sweet blog friend) in place. Dry embossed with the Big Shot, then used 'orangey' shades of DI to sponge over the embossing. The kraft color shows in the stencil pattern.

 

- 1/4" scor-tape added top and bottom, then covered with Orange Glitter Ritz, burnished very well.

 

- added some of the soda can metal leaves. Might be too many leaves with the boo-boo fix ones, but hey, it is what it is. Didn't think about this until I saw the photo! Am I the only one that does this???

 

An old sunflower button was on the crapalanche pile, so thought it might make a fitting embellie. Used Dark Walnut Nuvo Crystals to cover the center (where the button eyes are). Had to appy 3 layers of the Nuvo. When it dried, it would sink into the depression where you'd sew the button on. Finally after the 3rd time applying, it stayed raised up. This will definitely need some padding when it goes into the mail.

 

- stitched tag cut out the sentiment that is in the same small set...another one ready for an insert.

Birthday - Tattered Lace Gold Rose on Blue

Welcome and good afternoon. Hope that you all had a grand weekend. Ours was very quiet & mostly relaxing. Did some reading, worked on some cards...alas, no cleaning or housework (well aside from laundering sheets to change the bed. No biggie).

Recently I got some lovely Tattered Lace dies and here's a card with one die that I like very much.

- Tattered Lace Rose die which cut like a dream, even with all the intricacy. I did roll it back n forth a couple of times to be sure all the bits cut out well. Used some gold pearlized paper with a swirl pattern in it (think it is The Paper Studio brand - and from the snippet box). Tried different mat colors to see what made this gorgeous rose pop, and the royal blue glitter paper worked best. (It was a snippet left from removing the interior portion to get a mat for another card). This had been cut out with one of the S/B Card Creator dies.

- glittered black faux mat from the same S/B die that had cut the blue glitter paper.

-  background created using sprays and water coloring (Daler Rowney Pearlescent blue), but I wanted this rose to be the focal point. Decided to cut the background into 4 sections, but the rose wouldn't fit on a horizontal card, so this configuration had to be used. Used a Couture Creations vine EF to emboss the sprayed background prior to snipping apart.

-  Brilliance Galaxy Gold inked up an embossing folder and embossed smooth black c/which covers the card base with the same Couture Creations vine EF. The gold inking shows up quite nicely IRL.

- Starform gold sticker sentiment. The sticker sheet also had the tiny gold flowers so decided to add one on each of the sprayed pieces.

I'm taking this one over to the Snippet Playground for Week 144 and give my little buddy Parsnip a big hug! Carolling Penguins

Good afternoon and Happy Father's Day to those readers for whom this would be appropriate. Thanks so much for visiting this afternoon. Our Christmas Challenge theme of penguins was chosen by Carol  and here's my challenge entry:

- PBlack Slapstick image (40-034-Carolling Penguins), stamped on Xpress paper with Memento Tuxedo Black, colored with Copics. Used some Opal Liquid Pearls diluted with water to paint the white areas of the penquins which gives a nice glimmer IRL. Sparkle n Sprinkle Cloud Nine Velvet Glitter was added to the fur and pompoms on the hats to give some texture.

- Sakura Silver Star dotted around on the snowflakes in the background, and added some sparkly Stickles around the area under the feet. Also added a bit more of the Cloud Nine for a little snow effect.

- die cut image with S/B Majestic Label 25. Faux cut a black mat using the outer edge of the same die.

- Dylusions background created with Calypso Teal diluted with White Linen and the same color diluted with just water. Added in some of the new Slate Gray, which was diluted with white, and this made some nice snowy blobs of color. Sprayed just a bit of Tattered Angels gold that has an iridescent look. After drying, embossed with the Kars snowflake EF.

- MBox Snowflake border die cut using some 6x6 DCWV glitter paper. This has a sort of 'plastic' backing, but is more lightweight than a lot of the glitter papers. However, even though the metal shim was used, several rolls through the Big Shot took place, I still had to fiddle about with scissors to get a nice cut. This die cuts nicely, but this paper was probably not the best choice for such an intricate die. Selectively cut the border to place bits of it where I thought it looked nice, and added the tiny punch out stars from the die around on the card front.

Have been MIA for the last couple of days after our trip to North Carolina for a very exciting craft garage sale. We left Friday morning, made a stop at Spartanburg's Scrapbook Creations, where 2 stamps were being held for me. Of course I also found some of the new Elizabeth Crafts embossing folders. Had a nice little brunch, and headed on up the road to Greensboro, which was about a 3 hour drive. We had the opportunity of going into the Event Room to look over what had been brought into the sale at that time, which was helpful in deciding what my main interests would be the next morning when the sale was opened.

 

Customer numbers were to be given out at 7am on Saturday, so we thought we'd be early birds and arrive at 6ish. At 6:15, we were assigned #14 & #15, so that shows you how many folks got there much earlier than we did! Once numbers were assigned, then off to find some coffee & breakfast, and be back for a 9am opening. Only 25 people were allowed in at first, and as those folks began to leave, the next 25 were allowed in the room, due to Fire Regulations...plus size of the area. There was so much stuff on lots of tables, that it was sometimes difficult to get to see something that really caught the eye. I managed however!! We had a good time, but were tired when we finally got back home that evening, and we've been sort of dragging around ever since. It was fun though, and I did snap up a few things I wanted.

 

Here's today's card, which has been in process for a bit...just being slow to finish it.

 

 Sparkle n Sprinkle Hat Ladies (00-222P4) bought at an estate sale. The set caught my eye, because I have a cousin who does the Red Hat Ladies bit.

 

Stamped on Xpress, Memento Tuxedo Black, colored with copics*. Spica & WoS sparkles added

 

Versamark applied to the drape at her shoulders, then sprinkled with SnS Morning Glory EP and heat embossed

 

- Image was fussy cut and adhered with dimensional tape over a lavender S/B Label 18 die cut

 

- Cut a piece of SnS Adhesive sheet to the size needed. Used a TCW Mini Kaleidoscope stencil, versamarked the surface that would be against the adhesive. Sprinkled Amethyst Silk Glitter over the stencil, brushed off the excess, and burnished. Removed the stencil, sprinkled Lavendar Silk Glitter over the remaining surface. Cleaned excess & burnished. I had already removed the center portion of the adhesive sheet (where the main image would go) prior to applying the stencil.

 

- adhered the glittered piece to the white top fold cardbase. Then placed the die cut with the image over the cut away portion.

 

Decided that I didn't like the white edges at each side of the glittered piece, so used a narrow S/B border left from the sentiment matting to cover the white.

 

- Elizabeth Craft die sentiment on a snippet of red glitter paper. This was thick, and did not cut well (paper problem, not the die..this was thick paper that had sort of a 'backing' on it.).

 

- card base had been edged with S/B Curved Borders Two. Inside is trimmed with the matting lavender, using another of the Curved Borders so that it shows through the front die cut.

 

 

 

 

*If you look closely at this image, you will see why I had to fussy cut for the card. I was being very careful with the red, but it still managed to bleed outside the hat area. Sometimes the colorless blender will move the red back inside the lines...sometimes it won't. My mistake on this piece was that I should have done the background area first...instead of doing the red first. The image was finished, looked fine. When I went to do the blue background - just using the marker & not airbrushing since I didn't want to make a mask, there were several bleed areas. Had been pleased with the facial coloring. Used darker markers than I normally would choose - my normal would be E0000, E000, E00, & E01. I used E11 and some darker E colors, just experimenting - and was pleased with the look. Until I messed up the reds when doing the background! Fussy cutting was the only way I could think to save the image.

St Patricks Day - DaJaVu

OK, folks, I hope this will be the last of St. Pat's. Think I've got enough made for those Irish folks who enjoy a little Blarney round this time of year.

- Hat was from a bargain bin at Michael's. Not sure how long ago. Copic colored, WoS* on the tall part of the hat, black hat band, sprigs of shamrocks.

- Classic Square S/B

- S/B Gold Squares one. This just embosses, does not cut. Sometimes I get these mixed up and try to cut with them. Then I get aggravated when it just embosses! They are pretty though.

- Snippet strips from other cards. Green was embossed with the C/B dots EF.

- lace from stash. Thought about coloring the flowers green. Decided not to!

- Cardz TV Irish set sentiment. Colorbox fluid chalk ink stamped & then embossed with Clear EP. Punched with SU oval, then covered with a snippet of vellum. After adhering with some vellum transparent glue, edged the set with the same ink used to stamp.

- glitter shamrock snippet from Impression Obsession die.

- S/B Curved Bracket for the edging. Did another piece to trim inside since the card front is a bit short. Glued the strip section to the card front after diecutting the piece. It was a bit 'short', so decided to leave the white edge so that the stitching lines would show. It doesn't so much in the green paper.
Added the bottom section but first aligned the pieces with the bracket, so I could get a good join & match up the bracket lines. That was a little tricky - for me anyway! If I had planned ahead, all would have been on the card base, and just one cut necessary. Live & learn.

As previously said, I hope I don't remember somebody that I've left off my Irish card list. I'm ready to do Spring & Easter cards! Ya'll have a wonderful afternoon, and as always, loved to have you visit. Hugs.

A Winter Cardinal

Happy weekend & welcome! It's always such a mood lifter when Saturday rolls around. Today's card has been in the works for a bit, as I was thinking about backgrounds. I had seen Jennifer McGuire do a stencil technique*, and immediately thought 'that's it'. Hope this link will take you to the video and the inspirational technique was about 1/3 into the video.

- A Winter Cardinal stamp set - Sparkle N Sprinkle. Saw this set at Christmas, rather by accident, as it really was not ready for release just then. Miss Margaret (the owner) very kindly let me buy a set because she could see my disappointment. I waited until the March release to post a card featuring this set. 

Stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black - colored with Copic R family. I don't keep track of  markers used. I start with a light basecoat, then just lay down colors until I get a shading that I like. (I test the colors on a scrap of same type of c/s used for stamping the image). Not very organized, I admit, but that's how I work. Also study the finished image, and usually return to do some more shading, as my eye just doesn't seem to like shadows! But shadows & highlights make the flat image come to life. The branch was colored with Earthtones, and the greenery - with various greens.

- Sizzix Framelits die 658793, which has a nice stitched look. Traced the outer edge to get a scant mat. This was colored with a dark red copic; used a versamark pen over it, then sprinkled SnS Oriental Fire EP, heat embossed. It doesn't show well in the photo, but IRL it looks quite nice with the thin sparkly edge peeking out. The focal image was placed on dimensional foam dots.

- *Background: Adhered double side adhesive paper (Sookwang) to the top fold card base - top half only. Prepared the Hero Arts Tweed Pattern stencil by rubbing versamark pad over the side that would be against the sticky paper. (as Jennifer says, it helps with the removal of the stencil later). Stencil pressed down firmly. Poured generous amount of blue microfine glitter over the open areas of the stencil. Removed excess by shaking and gently brushing. Used the sticky paper backing to press firmly against the glittered surface & stencil. Once this color was adhered well, lifted the stencil; used a Pewter microfine glitter over the remaining open areas of the sticky paper stencil pattern. Removed excess, and then burnished, burnished with fingers. Once I saw how nice it looked, I wished I had done entire background rather than just the top half. Added a pearlized silver paper that was embossed with a SU snowflake EF as the bottom dp. Didn't want the 'join' to be obvious so -

die cut M.Box Pinecone Corner(98685) with white snippet, colored with copics. Cut apart to fit where it was needed to camouflage the join. Added a touch of Twinkling Clouds to create the snow, the sentiment from the set stamped in SU Real Red, punched with an SU oval. Two rhinestones for some bling...Voila ...there's my cardinal. Don't you just love  this beautiful bird? Hope you like this one!

Sparkle n Sprinkle Daisy Rectangle

Good afternoon, lovely visitor. First let me welcome 2 new friends:

Gail L. of What's Normal and Hazel E. of HazelsBasketsofJoy.  Thanks so much for choosing to follow me; Gail had to work especially hard to join as Blogger was misbehaving. I do appreciate you taking all the time to persevere considering all the aggravations. So please do take a few moments to pay a visit to these wonderful people for some most enjoyable inspiration.

One other shout out to Cornelia of Fun Stamping. She has an excellent idea for making a lightbox to take photos (and hers are awesome). It's certainly worth your time to pay a visit and see the tutorial & pictures she has posted. All of us who are not-so-great photographers can learn some good stuff! Thanks Cornelia, for doing this great tutorial.

I'm a bit tired of Valentine cards (still got 2 very special ones to make still), and I wanted something that said "Spring". This cute little Daisy Rectangle stamp had jumped in the basket on a visit to Sparkle n Sprinkle; it looked as though it would be  easy coloring with any type of medium, and it WAS! I'm not fast with my coloring.

 

- Stamped Daisy on a snippet of white Xpress, using Memento Grey Flannel. Just started choosing markers in yellows, light oranges & I think an E35 too for the centers. Just kept laying down colors until I got something I liked. Greens were YG03 with a putty to shade. (In the YG family, but I forget the number!). Background colored with G0000. I made my daisies look more like tiny sunflowers with the brown centers, just because I wanted to!



 

- SnS Daisy Rectangle frame colors were Sakura gel star pen that looked silvery, then outer frame Spica yellow, then Sakura gell pen in yellow. IRL these sparkle very nicely.

 

- Curly frame was a white snippet - probably a bit left from inside one of the C/B heavy plastic embossing frames that also had a cutout. This bit hid deep in the already colored images box. Used DI greens to shade it. Added some Brushable glue around the edges, then sprinkled with SnS Semi Transparent Diamond Dust.  Trying to use more of the glitters that I have stockpiled.

 

- Inside part of a S/B Twisted Metal Accent using a snippet from a Dylusions background created with the green, yellow & chocolate browns...all of which had been diluted with water & water & white linen. It's fun to see the different effects from these combos, and also what air drying or blotting will create.

 

- MS border punch, and some American Craft twine (another product I need to use more). Button is really VOS. I've collected buttons for years (don't anymore though!) and I have buttons from my Mom, some Aunts, and a friend who does estate sales used to buy jars of buttons for me. This one really looks grunge-y, and I debated on using it. Decided it would be my 'vintage' item. Hope you like this one. It went together very fast, especially for my slowness!

 

Now you've seen there are snippets on this card, so you know what's next! Off to the Snippets Playground and since I'm sure you have those little critters hanging around your craft area, why not jump o'er the Pond and have some fun.

 

Will also enter in the Sparkle n Sprinkle January Challenge, since lots of SnS products were used.

Sparkle n Sprinkle Snowman

Hello and HooRay! Saw my 200th follower pop into the list this morning. ASAP will do the Random Generator gig, &  post the winner of the blog candy.

I am doing a Happy Dance, can you see me??? I said YESSSS when I saw that number, and DH came in to see what the fuss was about. He just said "Hmmm...that's nice" when I told him   :-[

An update on yesterday's test: Mammogram was pretty easy...the tech is very skillful, takes quick pictures and seldom has to retake one. Found that my bone density could not be done yesterday - due to insurance constraints. Will need to be rescheduled for Jan 2015, to keep my mammo & bone density tests done at the same time & comply with insurance constraints. I was lucky that the bone tech checked my records to see that it had not been quite 2 yrs since my last one, else I would been billed rather than our silly insurance rules covering it! Next headed for a nearby Panera Bread & had a yummy brunch of mini-quiches, orange scones, & caramel cappuccino.  Then thus fortified, we did some running around errands.

Here's one of the hardest cards I've had to try to take a picture of to date. I've been messing about with the camera and this card all day.

- image is a sale stamp picked up on our Christmas visit to Sparkle n Sprinkle in Ruskin, Fla. Stamped on Xpress snippet & colored very easily with copics.   Just dabbed on various bright colors.  Used some spica pens, wink of stella on different places. Wink applied over the snowflakes then glittered.

Die cut with a S/B & edged lightly with BG0000 & splotches of BG0000 under him, for icy patches. Dabbed on a smidge of brushable glue using a toothpick, then sprinkled some Crystal Ice glitter over the snowflakes & the ice patch. Hat fur got brushable glue, then Twinkling Clouds. This product makes the nicest snowy look when added. I liked it so much I purchased a larger jar of it, so I don't run out.

- Card base is Bazzil textured navy blue, embossed with THoltz Tall Pines EF. Glue added here & there on the 'branches', dusted Swan Wing glitter tinsel over the glue. Looks quite icy IRL.

- MB Frostyville Border (988146) diecut from Studio G 6x6 paper.  I had seen this Youtube by Scrap Made Simple. Stacy demonstrates using a cutting die with design paper backed onto double sided  adhesive. She used Sookwang, and so did I.  Poked all the bits out, peeled the adhesive away, and didn't have to glue tiny places. Loved this technique, and will use it again.

Snowy was adhered to a DP banner (snippet from the diecut border), & sent to the top corner as I didn't want to cover up all the decorating. Frustrating trying to get a decent picture, but finally had to settle on this one. I've used some snippets, so this will get linked over at Pixie's Snippet Playground for Week 107. I spent a most enjoyable last evening being inspired by all the lovelies that have been shared by those Playground Elves, and laughed my head off at Miss P's poem. Trust me, you gotta check this out if you need a good chuckle and craft inspiration.

Realized I should enter this one in the January 2014 Sparkle n Sprinkle challenge too, since I used so many of their products!

My assignment this afternoon is to empty the hot water heater closet - which is by my airbrush table - so that the plumber can have clear work space to install a new heater come Saturday. Purchasing a new hot water tank was one of our chores yesterday.

St. Paddy's Card

Good Afternoon, and a warm welcome to a new follower. Thank you for joining as a follower and hope you will be able to visit often as time permits. So many blogs to enjoy and so little time to blog surf!! (we're getting close to Blog Candy...LOL). Also want to say a BIG Happy Blogaversary to Anne at Redanne who is celebrating her one year at blogging today. Folks, this lady has so many delightful projects - many done with Tim Holtz inspiration...you have a treat in store when you take a browse at her blog. Congratulations & Well Done, Miss Anne.

I have to get started on St. Pat's cards for a couple of Irish friends, so here is my card to share today. I liked the finished card, but Oh, was it hard to photograph. Here goes:

I tried photographing, using different back drops, and settled on a piece of dark navy cardstock. So the dark edge you see is what I placed the card upon to photograph.

- Stamp is from Cornish Heritage Farms (the old company, not the current digi company) and is a Thomas Kincade Foxglove Cottage
- Coloring done with Tsukineko Brushstix dabbed into Memento Ink pads.(if you aren't familiar with this item, I hope I've linked properly so you can see a picture).  The stamp is very detailed, and this was an easy way to color the image

- Ritz Cool Highlights glitter (see a great video on this technique here)
- Sookwang tape
- Shimmer Sheetz Peridot Green mat, embossed with Tim Holtz Leaves EF
- cardbase stamped with Colorbox Fluid Chalk Creamy Brown, using Impression Obsession Cover A Card 050 - Script
- overstamped with I.O. CC132 Ornate Snowflake using Fluid Chalk Lavendar
- Impression Obsession Shamrock DIE065AA

This was a fun card to create, and I hope if you enlarge the image, it will show up better. The Ritz Glitter gives the cottage a very misty look, just like what an Irish cottage might look like in my imagination. Edit: after looking at the enlarged photo, shot with a closeup setting, I decided to add another picture of this card, done with a different setting, different background;maybe it will show up a bit better. Think I was too close in the above picture to really do the card justice.

This photo has not been cropped or any changes made. I think I like the look of the card better in this picture where the camera was not so close.
