Dylusions Card

Hi everyone and welcome to 2 new followers. Ryn and Charlene.  I would invite you to visit both these fantastic blogs when you have a moment, for some serious art inspiration!

I have another of the Dylusions experiments that I finally made into a card - not sure what occasion it will be used for. This one has quite a few different techniques I was just experimenting with, and I had to look at it, think about it for several weeks. Last night, I decided to make a card with it.

-Background was made just using Dylusions sprays (I think it was Fuschia and Bubblegum pink, but I didn't write down what I used). I had been wanting to ink up my Ryn Patio Stone stamp, so you'll see it. (stamped great!). The circles were created by spraying water over a stencil; when it didn't remove as much ink as I wanted, I replaced the stencil & sprayed very lightly with the white Dylusions spray...holding the spray back much further. There was a negative diecut of the Memory Box Lorelei leaf - not yet thrown in the trash - used that as a stencil and sponged some DI blue to create the leaf. Moved it around to get the extra branches.* Then I stamped the Patio Stone several times with Archival Black. Went back a few days later and added the white outlining in the leaves with a white gel pen. Next time I'll probably just use a white pencil.
* this negative was from water color weight paper, and it made a good stencil. Something I have to remember when I'm trying to do watercolor will be save any diecut pieces.

I had been using the packing tissue from purchasing breakables at a store, as a liner on the airbrush table. I also save the old large desk calendar sheets as we tear off the months & add those to the table, or any papers that are large enough to protect the desk surface. I had read about using sprayed papers at several blogs, so I've started looking at the 'trash' with different eyes. I thought about the orange-y tones of the sprayed tissue complementing the purple-y tones of this piece, so tore off a scrap to see how it looked. This piece evolved over time...one night I'd just look & puzzle. Next night, I'd try something - either the stamping, stenciling, etc. This time I adhered the tissue and just left it alone for a couple of weeks. After looking at other blogs & some youtubes, etc., last night I used the Memory Box San Marzano border & Elizabeth Craft sentiment die in black and decided this was finished!

I hope you like this one...expect to see more of my experiments as I try to broaden the scope of my cardmaking. I think my first love will still be the images colored with copics, but this is a fun process.  Like I've said before, some may be warts, but some I sort of like!

Have a good day, thanks for joining me, and hugs.

  4. Beautiful design Mary and love your idea of using the die cut negative as a stencil! I recently bought the white linen Dylusions, I love the effect it makes, it looks great on your circles. I love Ryn's Patio Stone stamp, it compliments your circles very well. Take care, Shirleyx

  5. I am enjoying your experiments and the gorgeous cards you are making lately...I want to try these techniques too after reading your posts.
We bought a few sprays a while back and will try some of these too, once we are home again.
I have a list a mile long of new things to try.

Using the negative of the Memory Box die was a brilliant idea and that MB border looks great on this card.

  10. It's so reassuring to know that I'm not the only person who has a play and then has to think for a long time about what I'm going to make the result into! (If that makes sense!)

All your thought and experimenting has resulted in a totally beautiful card! I especially love the Lorelei leaf stencilled image, it is so pretty!

  11. Fantastic inky backgrounds here Mary. Well done on experimenting. It's so hard isn't it? You think you're happy with it and then you think you'll try ONE more thing, but you don't want to wreck what you've already done do you? I'm glad you went for it as you have great results.

    Hugs
