Apologies!....

Good afternoon. I must let you know something that happened here on the blog with comments getting published. I'm not sure of the cause. Didn't even know there was a problem until a sweet blogger let me know her comments were not showing up. Thanks Pat. I've had comment moderation turned on since starting this blog. When someone leaves a comment, I get notified on my email - then I can publish or weed out spam comments. Even though I've not been getting as many comments as I sometimes do on the posts, I didn't really give it a lot of thought. I was MIA for a long time last year, and I realize it takes folks a while to know I'm back in circulation. BUT after Pat advised me that her comments don't seem to be getting published, I started looking at possible reasons and got into the blog settings. Since my blog knowledge is not awesome, I even asked my guru (Loll) what she thought might be the problem. Neither of us came up with any ideas, and I wasn't aware of my changing anything. (of course I blamed Blogger!) Looked a couple times at the Settings, and then had a bright idea to check to see if I had any comments awaiting moderation. My goodness, there was 147! I apologize to all of you who were visiting, leaving comments, and these were not getting published. Since this is not the normal way I do the blog, I didn't even think about looking there at first. I published every comment that was in the list (and maybe some will be published twice!) Does anyone have any ideas why this happened, or what I can do to stop it happening again? All ideas will be gratefully considered & thanks for any help.

No card ready to post today (got one scheduled for tomorrow)...so I thought I'd share a photo our traveling buddy brought down to us recently. It was from our European trip last July, and was taken right at the foot of Edinburgh Castle. It was a chilly day, so we were bundled up pretty warmly.

Need to edit the Easter Chickie card too: that was a Memory Box sentiment die, NOT Cheery Lynn as the post reads!

Thanks for visiting, and appreciate any ideas on the commenting problem. I don't want this to happen again, and probably will forget to keep checking the settings since I'm not accustomed to blogging this way! :-)

Big hugs -

  1. Hi there Mary, I'm afraid I haven't any useful information for you. I don't do moderation and I've had the odd comment that is peculiar, but I just ignore them, it's the way I deal with things like that.
Know that piper from old he's been around since Moses was a boy, and yes in Edinburgh the East wind can be rather chilly, take care, Kate x

  2. Now that is strange...I check my awaiting comments moderation frequently and there can be one or two in there, very occasionally....that don't show up in my normal gmail...My settings are all Ok so my only advice is to sometimes check the moderation list. I don't think it's anything you are doing wrong x Love the photo of the piper outside Edinburgh Castle...home from home for me x

  3. Glad you managed to get all the comments published, Mary. I did wonder why my comments weren't appearing and I think a may have commented a couple of times on the same post.

All my email notifications go into an email account I never check so they don't clog up my normal email account. I find it easier to go into 'awaiting moderation' every time I go into my blog to edit or check my reading list to see who's made a new post and I make the comments live. I check the spam folder every so often and delete them all because the are always random comments by someone who remained anonymous usually.

Lovely photo of you in Edinburgh, it's quite a few years since I last went there. xx

  4. Um.....no idea what could have happened and all that with Blogger. Sometimes things like that straighten themselves out though.
Neat picture!!! I know y'all had a great time.

  5. I have no idea what that happened to you, Mary, but I have a blog friend who had a problem with her comments not showing up. People were getting the email notice that she'd commented, but they didn't show up. Someone thought to check their spam folder on the blogger dashboard, and sure enough, her posts were there. I checked mine, and hers were there, along with a few others. I clicked to post them and then they showed up. I've never had comment moderation so i don't know why it happened. I have people who comment, but I don't get the email notice. I don't know that they've commented unless I actually look at my blogger post. It's so frustrating!! Blogger can be a pain sometimes!! Awesome picture!! Scotland is on my bucket list to visit :) Have a great day!! Big hugs :)

  6. Hi Mary, such a stunning number of awaiting moderation comments!! You must have had worked very hard to resolve this problem!! I have always only a bit time, so I never looked if my past comments were visible.
I haven't moderating option activated on my blog, also because they aren't appreciated for entering in the challenges. But I don't find spam, usually...
Seems that you have had a fun holiday at Edinburgh Castle! :)

  7. I've always had moderation turned on to filter out all the spam - just like you. At some point last year (or maybe it was the year before) when blogger removed all those followers from our blogs (I forget the reason, but we all lost quite a few) some of my comments started landing in blogger instead of my email account. When I publish those comments in blogger, they get sent to my email inbox where I have to publish them again before they're seen. It's only the same few bloggers comments who for some odd reason do not come directly to my email inbox. I changed nothing, but it just happened after blogger changed things around some time ago. When I click "design" to go to my reading list, I check for unpublished comments every day now as routine. I wish I could explain why it happens, but I have no clue? Great photo too btw, thanks for sharing :)

  8. Like you Mary I have no idea what happened, but I always keep four blog pages open on the computer - the main page, the reading list, comment moderation and stats (because I am vain and like to see how many visited I have had). Sometimes comments turn up on the moderation page that have not been emailed to me too.

  9. Oh goodness, what an absolute pain for you! I am afraid I cannot give you any ideas or suggestions, I live in blissful ignorance where technology is concerned... hope you get it sorted though! Hugs, Anne xx

  10. Mary, I'd check your settings for getting an email that someone has left a comment. Even if they look ok, I'd change them and then change them back straight away.

I check my blog everyday, sometimes twice a day and so see if anyone has left a comment, as I moderate mine before they get published on the blog.

Hope you have a fab Friday. Sue

  11. So pleased you managed to partially solve the problem Mary, and 147 comments is an awesome amount. I, like Liz above always go to the blogger section where you see those that have already been published, those waiting to be published, ie 'awaiting moderation', and those usually anonymous comments which go to spam, though recently I have found a couple of anonymous comments in with those awaiting moderation, but it is easy enough to get rid of them. I'm afraid I don't quite understand the e-mail notification thing as I have never done that, and how even using this you wouldn't have to go to the blog comment area to publish but perhaps I am missing something here. The lady above has said that challenges don't like it if you have 'moderation' set, but actually it is 'comment verification' which is a different thing, which is where you have to tick a symbol or answer a question before you can publish your comment. Hopefully you will be able to get the e-mail thing put right Mary, and a lovely photo of you and your DH at Edinburgh Castle. So pleased your trip to the UK was such a success. x

  12. Mary, I had the same issue about comments. The issue is Internet Explorer for users like myself who use it. I too use it but comments would not show up. For those leaving comments, you will have to use another browser. That fixed the problem. The issue is probably not your blog. When I want to leave comments I just go to Google Chrome. I think Firefox works too.

  13. So sorry this is happening. I have no solution for you either. I am not very saavy at this computer stuff!

  14. Oh no, Mary, glad you got it sorted out! That's a lot of comments! I don't moderate my comments but I've only had one problem with spam in nearly 5 years so it's really not worth my time to moderate. Love your fun photo - I do enjoy bagpipes but don't get the opportunity to see/hear them much any more.

  15. Good that you found your comments patiently waiting for you in Comment Moderation. :) Hopefully things straighten themselves out and you start getting the email notifications as well.

Great picture from your trip Mary!! Thanks for sharing. xx

  16. Mary I noticed quit while back that they changed something and now i never know if someone leaves a comment, it use to tell you that you had comments waiting but not anymore, so you have to go into it and look at the comments waiting for your approval or spam ones.

  17. I wish I knew the answer Momma Mary, but I haven't a clue. Just like I don't know why sometimes don't get email notifications when a blogger posts a new post that I follow by email. I blame it on blogger too!! lol Love, love, love the picture of you and hubby!!!! So cool! Hugs, Brenda

  18. Great photo, Mary! I have no idea what's going on. I checked mine, but I have moderation turned off, so there are none. I did find five old comments in the spam folder that weren't spam, however, so thanks for making me look! I've had less comments, too, but put it down to a lot of my regular blogger friends switching over to Instagram. I think it is Blogger's fault. They are always tweaking this and that for job security - like my follower number goes up and down by one or two every few days, ridiculous - so it might have happened during one of those tweaks. Oh, you know, I did get an email from Blogger a couple of weeks ago telling me I had an "index" error, and that I should "fix it," but they didn't say which bleeping post was the problem nor how to fix it!!! I was not happy. Loll was called upon for that, too - poor Loll, haha - but she had never heard of it either. The only info on Google about it dated back to 2010-2012!

I hope this comment moderation thing never happens again and a note on your calendar on the 1st of every month to check it will give you peace of mind. TFS! Hugs, Darnell
