Christmas Card Club - Texture

Hello & welcome to another Sunday where it's time for our Christmas Card Club Challenge. Today our  teammate Rachel selected the theme, and Rachel wanted to see Texture on our cards. So here goes (a bit late, but I made it eventually).

You ever start out with a good idea, and then it just seems like everything you touch, doesn't work out to what was in your imagination? These 2 cards are great examples of that, but I really did like the way #1 turned out.

- Mixed up some transparent paste, Lindys Magicals in a lime green and blue shade, some gel medium, got a nice green - made a background first to test the colors. (it's used in the next card). Then using the same Magicals, took some glass gel paste, mixed again to get this color of green. I like the shading that shows & it's really a nice texture. Looks 'touchable'. This was spread over a Stamplorations Swirl Tree Stencil. I remembered to mix some of the glass gel beads with a bit of acrylic gold paint for the star, but didn't think of the trunk until too late; so it's a green trunk instead of brown! Artistic license. Used 140# watercolor paper for this stenciling.

- HLS Mixed Christmas Sentiments clear set used for the sentiment. Heat embossed with Ranger's Gold Fine Detail EP, rathen than my fav Queen's Gold. This fine detail EP works better with sentiments, but I like the gold gleam of  Queen's Gold much better.

The next card was die cut from the 1st green background created while trying to get the transparent paste a shade of green that I liked. First idea was to add the stenciled tree above on this background, but would have been Too Much Green! (remember I've been doing St. Pat's cards!)

- S/B Holiday Tree die to cut out the tree shape. Going ok so far. Traced the tree outline shape onto Gold Mirror paper, fussy cut, started putting tiny dots of glue around on the green to adhere. This glue is _supposed_ to dry clear, and I did blot as I pressed the green to the gold. When it dried, I could see smears of the glue. (Well if the light hit just right). So 2nd idea not working out so great. Hunted through my gems stash, found these holly leaves, and started to try to cover the worst spots. I would have liked this one, if not for the glue problems. It _was_ fun to do the background...I'm finding that's something I like to do. You just never know what will result.

- HLS Mixed Christmas sentiment stamped on a snippet of the same watercolor weight paper left from trimming out the Stamplorations tree. Handcut a fishtail. No really good place to put the sentiment, so --- Hey, it can cover a glue spot!!!

I hope you enjoyed the cards, my adventures in artistry (and I always have some!) and will take time to visit my teammates to see what they've shared with Rachel's Textures Challenge. See you in 2 more weeks with another Christmas Card Club Card.

Have a wonderful day, and thanks for coming by. Hugs.

  8. Wow wow wow Mary!!! You have really made a magical potion!!! :D Your texture looks fabulous! I don't have the ingredients that you have used, have only the gel medium, but you have made me desire to mix something... LOL
I have tried to imagine the trunk in brown, but think that it is much better this way, I looooove this tree as it is!!! Great card!!
The second card has a fab shine with the golden outline shape and the blings, looks so festive! Your covering on the smear has been so clever! And the green texturized paper looks so well also on it!... but my favourite is the first one, it's just SUPER!!

  17. Even though you had some "issues" with these cards, they sure did turn out so pretty!!! I love the first one because of the simple design and the shades of green in the tree, loving this texture you made. The star is fabulous and I wouldn't have even know that the tree trunk wasn't brown if you hadn't pointed it out. Yep, love this one! The second on is equally as pretty too. Love the tree shape and mirror paper behind it, the gold makes it just shimmer and shine! Even with the glue spot smears, you have covered them up well and wouldn't have even know about them if you hadn't said. Love the leaves and berries and the sentiment fits perfectly across the tree. Hugs, Brenda

  19. These are two gorgeous cards. No one would even think about the trunk if you hadn't told us. It is fine just the way it is. Have a good night.

  20. Two wonderful cards Mary and the first is such a prettily coloured stencilled tree and it makes a beautiful CAS card. The second is a lovely die cut one and the background gold complements it really well. I know what you mean about things not turning out the way you envisaged but you would never know there was any problem as it is gorgeous. x

  21. These are both great cards. Lots of texture going on here. My fav is the 2nd one. I had as much trouble with my cards as well. The first card just wouldn't go right. I had an image cut as an oval originally and nothing I did made it work with the backing. In a fit of pique I yanked it off and replaced with what you now see. Pleased with it now. I'm glad Rachel made us create out of our comfort zones. You did great. Hugs Mrs A.

  23. Two beauties Mary, but it's the first that really jumps out at me, I love the simplicity of the tree and the bold greens. And what a great idea to mix your own colours, do you know I've seen it done on TV so many times yet when have a play with my gels it never comes to mind.

    Have a good week.

  25. Two great cards. The first has the stark beauty of that gorgeous tree!

The second is the opposite...a card full of texture, colour and a beauty found in the sort of wildness of the beauty. I really like the way you laced the sentiment across the tree (on that fishtailed banner!

  30. HI Mary,
that is true sign of a very clever craft person when they can cover up any probs with something else.
2 brilliant Christmas club cards, and what clever use of your St Pats green.
    Fab use of snippets also.

  31. Two pretties you are getting a head start. I find that hard to do until after Easter Like the shops putting out Easter before Valentine BTW Mary the markers from Stampfest are copic just replacing ones that dies. I usually have about 25 that are dry and bad nibs so I replace instead of refil...Lis

  32. Two really fun cards. I do love the swirl of the first tree. Very CAS and very pretty. The second one is more ornate not quite my style but lots of people go for that kind of Christmas tree. Awesome cards! Hope you have a wonderful week! Thanks for sharing these beauties.

  38. Two pretty cards Mary. LOVE the stenciled tree with the glass bead gel. I know how pretty and sparkly that product is ... so can imagine how sparkly this card is in real life. It's a shame the camera doesn't pick it up. And that stencil is so cool. I LOVE it! Your second card is so pretty with the Gold mirror card background. Great job with both cards Mary! xx

  39. Similar design concepts and colors, yet so totally different! One contemporary and CAS, one elegant and more detailed. I like both these styles, what others will pick as favorite will depend on what style they're more into, because both cards are well designed.
