Christmas Card Club - Hearts or Red Challenge

Hello and today it was my turn to select a theme for our bi-monthly Christmas Card Club Challenge. Since the month of February has just started, and thinking that February is usually associated with Valentine's day, my first thought was hearts. Well, this is a Christmas Club, so yep, needed to be Christmas-y too, so I picked Red as well.

The image I thought about for my card is a cute little Mulberry Wood Lovebird stamp, {kinda  romantic for the Hearts part of the theme  :-) } & I used Red!

- Mulberry Wood - A Christmas gift, and there's a sentiment to stamp inside that reads "All I Want for Christmas is You". You know who will get this one! Used a white snippet, colored with copics, touches of clear Wink of Stella, and hand cut the image. Applied brushable glue to fur areas and  some Sparkle n Sprinkle Twinkling Clouds over the glue. (there's a sad story below the specs*).

- Cheery Lynn English Tea Party Doily (DL101) diecut from textured red Bazzill, edged with Viva Inca Gold, which was also dabbed along the holly leaves.

- Cheery Lynn Holly Flourish (B148) diecut from a green snippet which was just large enough with  creative placement. Cut the flourish so it could be placed as shown.

- Dylusions background using green family with just a bit of turquoise & yellow spritzed around on the paper.

- EK Success border punch from 6x6 Kaisercraft Be Merry Collection.

- Elizabeth Craft Joy sentiment from a snippet left from cutting the doily.

*Sad story: Stamped & colored this image twice...but not intentionally. Colored the first one, and thought it was The Best Effort I'd done on an image. Trotted upstairs to show  Mr. who said "What are they? Tomatoes?". Told him to put on his glasses, they are Red LOVEbirds".  After he admired my copic skills, back downstairs, to apply the brushable glue & glitter so it would dry well overnight. The glue tip seemed clogged, so poked a pin in it, squeezed, still no glue coming from the tip. Removed the cap, cleaned out a glob from the cap too. Replaced the cap - I thought pretty well - squeezed real hard & PLOP! The cap came off with the pressure of my squeeze, and blobbed glue all over my great coloring! Oh...bet you can guess what I said. Was able to clean off the glue, but didn't feel like the image was usable. Redid it again, and of course, 2nd coloring effort was not nearly as good as the first one. Next time, put a glue puddle on an old cd, and used a toothpick to appy it, rather than squeezing directly from the bottle. Call this Operator Error & Lesson Learned! Decided the #1 image leaves were salvageable, so trimmed out some. Applied with dimensional foam over #2 image. Also dabbed some Inca Gold around the top part of the image after I saw it on the doily.

Thanks for joining me this afternoon, and I hope that your weekend was just wonderful. Many hugs.

  4. Mary! This is gorgeous! Love that beautiful doily in red. And your coloring on #2 is beautifully done, as well. The salvaged leaves look incredible. This is such a sweet card. So sorry about the mishap. Those moments take our breath away and not in a good way, but your recovery looks wonderful. Love the card.

  9. How frustrating for you Mary, but the second effort is just great, such cute little birds and the colours you have used are lovely, so bright and fresh and just right for a Christmas theme. I have a habit of tweeking things when the card is already assembled and then have spoilt it by blobbing glue or getting a drop of water etc., in the wrong place, and it can be irritating in the extreme! This needs no tweeking because it it lovely. x

  18. Oh no! That was a terrible moment that you took and turned into a victory.

This is a lovely card and I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw you used green too! Whew. I thought I had really lost the plat when I took my photos and came to grips with just how much blue I used...again!

Love the inka gold on the doily and the leaves you saved and reworked onto your card for additional dimension look fabilous!

  19. This card is adorable! So all your effort in making it was definitely worth it! I don't think there's a card maker out there that can't relate to your story...(and Yes, that's how we learn our lessons...like don't make cards with an open can of liquid next to you, etc...etc...

  20. Hi Mary

What a disappointment for you .. .. but all's well that ends well as they say.

You still have a lovely finished card.

    Have a good week.

  21. This is a great card Mary. Typical husband - tomatoes indeed! The love birds are really sweet!. I had a similar accident once with Cosmic Shimmer glue. In the end I gave an almighty squeeze and about half the contents shot out of the container, some landed on the edge of my desk ruining some papers, but the rest went splat onto a cabinet opposite my desk. Usually the roller door stays up all door but for some reason it was closed - thank goodness!!!! Lesson learned. Love and hugs. Christine xx

  22. Oh yes, we've all done it, Mary! Some of us more than once! However, the end result is super cute, and the leaves are gorgeous!

  24. Oh Mary what a great little image and I love the red doily touched with gold - gorgeous. As for the glue, I am so sorry but it did make me giggle, this happened to me not long before Christmas and I saw the blob fly up into the air and it seemed as if it was coming down in slow motion - must say I was fortunate though, it landed on the backing paper and wasn't seen!! Anyway your card is wonderful - as is your colouring!

Thank you for the challenge Mary!

    Hugs to you Sue Pxxx

  25. How sweet! You made a card to send to Tim Holtz! Oh. Wait. Am I wrong on who You-Know-Who is??? hee hee. Such a sad and heartbreaking tale with the glue. I think we've all done that or something similar. It is a very sweet card though with its red lovebirds and that fancy schmancy doily.

  26. Wow, wow, wow, this card is gorgeous Momma Mary! I love that doily and how you have accented it with your sprays and such and those little birdies, omgoodness, they are just as cute as can be!! I'm sorry your glue globed all over your other set of birds, that is always so frustrating when something like that happens. But it is a lesson learned, not sure I would have learned from it as I'm always doing something dumb! lol Hugs!

  27. Gorgeous card Mary and your colouring on this is fabulous - you are too hard on yourself huni. You have made me wonder that if it happened again or I did it if we could cover the whole coloured topper with clear fine glitter - something for me to think on lol! Thank you for the challenge huni, I love using red on my C cards xx

  28. Absolutely adorable image Mary - those two birdies are so cute. Love the red doily. Your operator error and lesson learned rang such a loud bell with me! Reckon it's happened to all of us at some time!
